how much do cigarettes cost for everyone? here in the UK marlboros are £9 ($15) for 20, i opt for chesterfields which are only £7.70 something (about $12/13?) when i can afford them

but right now im rolling cigarettes because its cheaper and smells less gross
i smoke indoors right now though, while i'm between jobs, so the smell does kinda matter. i don't like smoking straight in the house, the smell permeates everything.

e-cigs are too new for people to fully understand their effects yet. Long-term studies of their effects on the body can't yet be done, and they've been rapidly pushed out the general public with very little regulation or research.

Most people who use them say that they can actually contribute to addiction and make it harder for them to quit a nicotine habit. Pair that with the prohibitive cost of e-cigs and normal cigs become a cheap fallback for the nicotine fix in most counties. The cheaper e-cigs also have a tendency to violently explode.

I had the same addiction problem with them, and e-cigs also caused me to cough and wheeze to the point I couldn't breathe, all the time. I kind of dislike how there's no last-drag conclusion or area restrictions on e-cigs, it made me just puff on it all day and get way more nicotine than i could from a few regular cigs.

If you take a look at the sticky, smelly, viscous liquid inside an e-cig cartridge, it's hard to imagine that it's completely innocuous converting that shit into vapor and inhaling it.

The most common argument in their favor is that whatever it is, it has to be better than the thousands of carcinogens and chemicals inside paper cigarettes that are well known and proven to cause serious damage to your body.

People still buy cigarettes in Chicago, New York, and London, which are all charging literally five to ten times more than they did just a few years ago. When you're addicted to something, you don't care about the cost, you just pay it. This is why crackheads shank innocent people for 5 dollars.

All your retarded "raise taxes even more" plan will do is cause the $50/cig locale's cigarettes to get priced out by an extremely accessible black market. Learn to economics.

4chan in general doesn't have a board that's perfect for tobacco.
/b/ is technically where it should go, but I understand wanting to avoid that...
otherwise, it's just a sort of side-show. /k/ has ATF threads (post/discuss alcohol, tobacco and firearms), /pol/ has diatribes about the "nicotianated jew" and smoking crops up elsewhere from time to time at random (see: your thread).

Seriously, 4chan will always discuss it in the greater context of the board (i.e. /k/ will tell you the most operator-tier chewing tobacco or smoke, /pol/ will discuss what effects tobacco has on society, and somewhere like /x/ would discuss something like "what do you smoke when you read creepypasta", and /g/ would talk about e-cigs) To get an 100% tobacco-only discussion, I'd suggest 420chan's tobacco board.

>e-cigs are too new for people to fully understand their effects yet...

Accurate, agreed.

>Most people who use them say...

Nope. Go to any online e-cig community and see how many people support this claim. The limited studies we have, paired with our understanding of how the body absorbs nicotine, suggest that e-cigs are actually an extremely poor nicotine delivery system compared to traditional cigarettes. The particulates of the vapor are simply to big compared to smoke to be readily absorbed via the lungs. Nicotine absorption from e-cigs occurs primarily through the mucus glands in the mouth and sinuses. Blood tests conducted on people new to e-cigs have shown many absorb little to no nicotine.

>Pair that with the prohibitive cost of e-cigs...

While e-cigs do often require a high initial expense when buying the rechargeable batteries, chargers, etc., bottles of the refill liquid are significantly cheaper than traditional cigarettes, depending on your location. I smoked about a pack a day at ~$7 USD. A 30 ml bottle of liquid costs about ~$16 and lasts me about two weeks. I will give you that my experience is limited to the US so other countries may be completely different.

>The cheaper e-cigs also have a tendency to violently explode.

Unfortunately true. The smaller disposable types are more likely to deform, particularly if left in a hot car but exploding does happen. To any considering switching to e-cigs, please avoid knock-offs and stick to reputable manufacturers.

>...e-cigs caused me to cough and wheeze...

That is terrible. Perhaps you suffer from an allergy or intolerance to propylene glycol (a major component of many liquids) which is fairly common. Vegetable glycerin based alternatives are available.

>> No.4978031

It's much better than smoking just by the virtue of how terrible combustion is for you. Of course it has risks (oxygen is the main carcinogen) and yes, probably a slight carcinogen. But just by virtue of not being smoking it already is a fuck load healthier.

>if you look at the...liquid...it's hard to imagine that it's completely innocuous...

Very true and I doubt you'll find many e-cig proponents who claim otherwise. But we know what that liquid contains. Propylene glycol, which is commonly found in many consumables such as tooth paste and pharmaceuticals, is a component in fog machines and therefore has been inhaled indirectly for years by many people, and is used to sterilize air circulation systems in hospitals and other "clean" environments. Vegetable glycerin, used in many food products, particularly confections. Nicotine, a stimulant proven to be no more harmful or addictive than caffeine. Food grade flavorings, often all natural if you know your liquid vendor although artificial flavorings are common.

We still don't really know what Marlboro puts in their cigarettes.

>The most common argument in their favor...

Many people find it extremely difficult to quit and have failed many times trying with the available therapies. E-cigs are NOT necessarily safe. However, what we know suggests they are less harmful alternative. Harm reduction is what the vast majority of e-cig supporters are all about.

Terrible smoker here. Been off work and rather depressed for 2 years now - Goin' back next week and will have to stop chainsmoking for the first time in that long (tis a good thing). I know it's a stupid habit, but I'm in this shit and my willpower is fucking DREADFUL.

I'm in Australia and I smoke Champion Blue rolling tobacco.

We've had some pretty big laws passed in the last few years tobacoo wise.

No advertising on tv/sports happened ages ago, and the tax goes up by miles every year, but the last two were

1) No longer allowed to refer to 'strength' in the title, no mild, extra mild, strong. Honestly sucks for consumers as any colour assigned is independent for the most part and not necessarily indicative of the strength. Sure, strength =/= equal healthiness, but be damned if smoking Champion Gold for a day doesn't have me coughing up a storm compared to smoking Champion blue. Green is generally menthol across all brands though.

Last big law was generic packaging for all brands and removing from shown spaces in stores. Everything comes in a generic copper packet and the tobacco cupboard has a door.

Is it a bad thing? Naw, not for the kids. But its an inconvenience to those of us that have made our choices and pay more tax than we'll ever see in health care if we get sick from our habits.

I think it's more a matter of pragmatism. You can argue the defense of 4chan as a bastion of freedom or whatever, but the fact is, Moot is super uncomfortable with anything criminal, especially of the sort which gets you hounded by obsessive prosecutors.

So, copyright infringement is generally ignored or tolerated, but shit like CP and Drugs? the shit that will get your home raided by jackboot thugs, your dog shot, and everything you own confiscated as "criminal proceeds?" That he steers far clear from.

All it takes is some Narc posing as anon talking to some insufficiently paranoid idiot, they set up a drug deal in a "POT GENERAL" sticky on the front page, and all of a sudden, Moot is facing criminal charges for allowing it to happen on his servers.

So, I might not agree with it. But I get it.

>> No.4981512

The effect is subtle and your body eventually adjusts resulting in a fairly small difference in the long run. The reason it's played up is that when people quit smoking, they freak out and need a substitute for three things: habit, oral fixation, and nicotine buzz. Food satisfies most of those except the nicotine for which they tend to overcompensate by overeating. So there's often weight gain associated with quitting tobacco.

If you really want to lose weight stop being a fat fuck and fix your diet and physical activity levels.

America has the best conditions for growing tobacco in the entire world. From the composition of the soil in the primary growing areas, to the humidity in the air, the sunlight (swear to Allah) and the growers here have more experience than anyone else in the world (look up where tobacco was discovered). If foreign brands taste better, its because they added extra shit to the tobacco, not because the tobacco itself actually tastes better.

>If foreign brands taste better, its because they added extra shit to the tobacco, not because the tobacco itself actually tastes better.

First of all, your ongoing extreme flyoverland butthurt is ironic because I actually posted a brand comprised of USA grown tobacco. The brand itself would be considered an "import" by any conceivable definition of the term, and it would not be considered an "American" brand. You see, the tobacco trade is highly internationalized and we use terms like "imported" as a shorthand because it's annoying to say "cigarettes comprised of American grown tobacco processed in the Europe but with the holding company located in Bermuda"

Second, there are many styles of smokables, and most cigar smokers would strenuously disagree with your "America has the best conditions" remark. Best for wrapper maybe, and even then that's highly debatable. But let's say we agree that we grow the best wrapper leaf - the amount of flavor contributed by wrapper leaf is minor at best.

Third, the flavor of a cigarette, and in fact pretty much any tobacco product, is determined by a hell of a lot more than just "shit added to it". Curing process, cut size and shape, and how much of the blend is made of what parts of the plant, and from what leaves on what level (close to the sun or close to the ground) make a huge difference (although with cigarettes they don't go that far). That's why your discount no name indian reservation smokes made of 50% sticks and stems taste like ass even though they still give you a buzz.

Finally, you're a retarded murrifat with a hair trigger illiterate form of "patriotism" and people like you are why this country is going down the shitter.
