Can anyone who knows about japanese cuisine please tell me what he is picking up in this image? It looks great, and I would like to cook it!

God the food in general in that scene all looks fucking delicious.

Looks like some kind of giant soft dumpling filled with.. meat and veggies or something

>> No.4954009

>>4954002
they seem to have wings or nodules or something.. Not sure if dumplings

Most, if not all, Miyazaki food looks great.

>> No.4954014

I've wanted to know wtf he's eating for so damn long. Since I have no clue, I just say it's deboned chickens.

judging by the subtitles, I'd guess it's "credit cards and cash"

>> No.4954025

I don't know what it is but I know it turns you into a pig, literally.

Didn't there used to be a english / japanese board on 4chan?

>picking up a whole chicken to put on your plate alongside your meal
I bet the family is half american

>> No.4954072

>>4954053

I realize you might be joking but if you haven't seen the movie, all that food was enchanted to be incredibly addictive. They eat it endlessly and eventually turn into fat pigs. Just like Americans.

Looks like steamed Rabites.

Haha so clever! You made a joke by referencing a stereotype about a nationality! It made me produce some high quality laughter.
I bet your occupation is comedic writer.

guys pls. It hurts as an American to always see these "Americans are fat" It's true, 33% of our nation is overweight and its the leading cause of death, but many people are uneducated about food and succumb to consumption and obesity.

It hurts my pride as an American to know my friends, family, and country are overweight.

Looks somewhat like a stylized bunny, could be a steamed bun in that shape

this might be sarcastic but iktf.
feels bad that murrika has such a dumb reputation.
meanwhile we've got a ton of the most fit people in the world, too.
>tfw underweight and working my ass off to get some gains

>> No.4954147

In that scene the parents don't even know what they're eating and Yubaba just refers to it as food for the spirits.
Most likely it's not even something that exists, but closely looks like a chicken if it was made out of gelatin.

Looks more like duck to me.

>> No.4954180

looks like haggis to me.

i think the point of the scene is that they don't really know or care what they're eating, it's intentionally ambiguous

Ghibli films have the best looking food. There was a thread on /co/ a while ago full of pics like this.

uhm, as a chef I suppose my guess would be deboned, stuffed, and steam quail? Honestly I have no idea and that wouldn't be a japanese food really. But maybe some other type of fowl?

FUCK IT, it's probably haggis.

>> No.4954995

I always imagined it as some godly, succulent onion but that was the most attractive food in that whole movie to me

>> No.4954999

That egg and bacon from Howl''s moving castle too..

This person identifies a lot of the food in the movie.

Also, I think those sacks are pork skins stuffed with meat, rice, and vegetables.

Yeah, I thought they looked like bunny shaped mantou or something but they're gloopy and not white.

Looks like they're also in this scene though.
>>4954964

>>4954053
The point of that scene was to show how gluttonous they were.

I think most of the foods are meant to be fictitious/magic, but I would guess some kind of stuffed squid/octopuss

Thanks for this and I'm not even OP.
