Any of you guys like going to high-class restaurants? Or do you all just make your own stuf

last week at work some person tried to insult me by saying

>lol hey anon wuts ur favorite restaurant id love to hear what kind of place u like to eat at, probably del taco or something lol
>i say "House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. Have you ever been there?"
>she says "oh uh no..."
>I say "whats your favorite restaurant
>she says "probably somewhere with good burgers i guess..."

i sure put that bitch in her place

What's the fanciest restaurants any of you guys have been to?

I enjoy good restaurants for the level of skill in the foods... Budget wise they can take a chunk of money but for a special occasion it's worth it to me..

Of the local -very- good high end restaurants I've been to Toqué! and the Laurie-Raphaël,,, Chez l'Épicier could probably be thrown into that lot as well.

I love the discovery aspects of the meals.

I like going to nice restaurants, but I'm still a student and thus can't afford to do so very often.

Fanciest restaurant I've ever been to is, without a doubt, Hawksworth in Vancouver. Went on my 20th birthday. The food was amazing, but god damn it was expensive.

Fogo de Chao. Probably pleb tier by high class standards, but hey, I live within my means. Everyone I was with was like "don't even go to the salad bar, its a ruse. They try to fill you up before the meat comes out".

That salad bar was top notch and just as good as the meat entrees.

I live in New Orleans and we don't have any major upper-class restaurants. I've pretty much eaten at every place that would be considered "fancy". It's good, but greasy spoons are the go to here.

If I had to pick a single place that was top-shelf, most likely be Revolution. Folse & Tramonto have done a really solid job putting together a high-class dining experience to draw in tourists out of the mean streets,

Yeah, I like going to high-class restaurants on occasion. But honestly most of the time I really prefer junky food or "common" food I guess. I just think it tastes better and my palate really isn't that sophisticated to begin with. I like knock-you-out flavors.

The fanciest restaurant I went to was French Laundry, which I saved up for and went with my family. I enjoyed it but again, I didn't get wine pairings cause I can't appreciate it and it wasn't some sort of "deathrow" meal. Deep down if I was asked to choose again I would go to a good steakhouse.

I think food for me is still about pure satiety and pleasure, and with higher grade food you have to take the time to savor it and really appreciate the intricacies, which I'm not good at doing. And that's just my bad.

There is a little place in Santiago, Chile, called Junta Nacional.

It's obviously Chilean cuisine, so loads of meat, pasta and spices. Beautiful wine, naturally. It's probably my wife's and mine favourite restaurant in the world.

Probably the top places I have been for "fancy":

I went to a good Szechuan restaurant in Hong Kong when I was there. IIRC myself and my girlfriend paid about $170 for supper for the two of us. Food was very good, but they kind of fucked up our service and forgot about us for a bit.

There's a chef near my hometown that runs his own restaurant and does all the cooking himself. The choices are limited basically to meal combinations that run ~$75/plate not including drinks or dessert. The restaurant is in a renovated 70s gas station; very pleasant and cozy and the service was good. The food was very good although one of the meat dishes was served colder than it should have been, while this was understandable considering there's only one guy cooking, it is still a problem.

I generally don't eat out much unless it's at the pho place by my apartment after a long day on the way home.

Took my girlfriend to an upscale japanese place last summer, and it was amazing. The place was on no reservations and was easily the best restaurant i've been to.

I'd like to go to more nice restaurants, but I don't have much cash of my own, so it's hard to justify it.

>> No.4902587

Not "high-class," but still relatively expensive. My fiancee and I were in San Francisco with her great uncle, who is stupidly rich. He flew us out to Califronia from Florida, had us stay in his house on the Pacific, and took us with them to stay in SF for three nights at the Marines Memorial Hotel. This dude blew a few thousand on us. Anyways, they encouraged us to eat one night at the restaurant in the hotel. Bill for me and my fiancee was around $90. I had a black pepper crusted steak which was good, but had WAY too much pepper on it. I probably would've been more upset about it had I actually paid for the meal.

Looks sloppy, like the fucker was in such a hurry, he couldn't even hit the damned plate and got the rim instead.

There should be a clear at least 2 inches around your food of clean plate, to fucking frame the dish. There are of course exceptions, just like when you hang a frameless borderless piece done on something other than canvas, or when you're featuring something other than a painting, like a carving, but fuck.

Had a lovely time on travels at some nice restaurants over the years. A few favorites stand out, where some of the classic famous restaurants sometimes disappoint, think NYC.

Back in the 80s, had the most gourmet French meal of my life at a private restaurant on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, from vichyssoise to succulent beef, at local prices, with a sunset over the volcano. There was nothing in the area, just a treasure and pleasant surprise. Of course, only fools were in the middle of war torn Guatemala at the time.
I had a similar feast in Rio, one night by accident, walking into an empty restaurant, and getting appetizers of baby quail eggs, all kinds of marinated goods, giant platters of steaks with accompaniments...through some mistake of ordering, a family of 5 got enough of a feast to feed a wedding party, for hardly any money. Just one of those moments in currency exchange in a foreigners favor.
A lot of my omg awesome experiences come with alcohol. I had the best moules frites in DC at Granville, along with a Delerium buzz. I can say the same thing at Jaleo, and one of my favorites on multiple visits, Liberty Tavern in Arlington, where I had my first barbera and charcuterie. I can still recall the local scrapple, all sizzled and crispy, and the smoked blue, and mostardas...all the way to dessert. I love those chefs.
Not so much now, but the Sunday Brunch at the Biltmore in Coral Gables FL used to be stunning amazing, but I've found over the years that no matter how much a price is raised, buffets have started to suffer quality over quantity. The brazilian rodizios still have some nice intense preparation salads and composed things, like right out of the 50's but it's getting more rare, and the closest thing to the amazing spreads that cruise ships used to do. Some of my finest meals, don't laugh at my age, were in Pan Am first class. From caviar to cheese carts, to chocolate liqueur cups laid out with post dinner snacks.

Earlier i worked with a chef who was doing that dish on Alinea, so many fucked up stories about prepping for that dish.

Me, i've been to Gramercy Tavern, Ai Fiori,Eleven Madison Park. Le Bernardin, Daniel, Momofuku Ko, and Per Se. All in the span of about.. 10 days.

Daniel was a big letdown for me,as i was seated next to the waiters station behind a pillar in the corner, while Eleven Madison Park and Per Se absolutely rocked the shit out of me.

I don't really care how "fancy" the restaurant is as long as there's god tier food.

There used to be a local place called Liberty Valance in Richmond, VA. Been closed a couple years now. Every piece of beef served there was USDA prime, even the burgers. It was a western themed restaurant, but they had the best steaks in town. Beat the crap out of Texas Roadhouse. Served on cast iron sizzlers, still sizzling when it hit the table.

There's a place called "Buckheads" locally. My girlfriend has been there, shirt and tie required. She said it was amazing, and wants to go back (work function there).
