>I don't even know why, but the comparison from homegrown to store bought is pretty damn huge.
The basic reason is that the varieties that people prize for their flavor tend to be juicier and softer when ripe, and don't ship well or keep well at that point. Storing a bunch together hastens their shift from ripe to overripe. Tomatoes destined for grocery stores are often picked before they're ripe, stored, and ripened near the time of sale with ethylene and heat/humidity control, but however they do it, they still need to be ripe at the grocery store, and the delicate varieties favored by home gardeners just don't meet the practical criteria favored by retailers.

>>4903193
>To everyone saying homegrown tomatoes are so much better, why?
Like someone else said, the reasons you don't like them sound valid - they are watery and have seeds, and lack the crunch of a cucumber. To me the flavor is quite intense, much moreso than most other common veggies, but opinions like that are very subjective. But even if you hate tomatoes, if you bought tomatoes at a store, I think you'd notice the texture and flavor difference between those and freshly picked home grown tomatoes. Since you dislike the properties that most tomato fans enjoy (flavor, juiciness), you may actually prefer the store-bought varieties.

Yeah, raw onion is extremely popular in the US, used on burgers/sandwiches in all the main fast food chains among other places, and commonly in salads. The onions used are relatively mild; perhaps the onions you're familiar with are much stronger than these.

Because any moderately educated person understands the botanical definitions. The riddle of "tomatoes are fruits" is pretty well played out by age 10. Have you guys ever heard about the "blood type diet"? It must be related with the OP's dilemma.

I have A+ blood type and tomato (such as meat in general and cucumber) are not "compatible" with my blood type so I can't ~feel~ them so attractive even on nice pics like those above (at least raw, except for the cherry tomatoes they're tasty as fuck).

Take a look:

It is not about ~feels~ literally, noble Anon, it's about taste and the way food is digestible, or whatevs.

But actually I don't know how much that diet is accurate, I'm saying just in case someone knows about it.

>Your IQ is...?
IQ is surprisingly independent of gullibility. There are people with PhDs in hard sciences who believe in angels and other superstitions. Skeptics like you or I would probably still consider them stupid, but at the same time they might be able to solve equations that would take us years of study. It's like an everyday version of savantism...the person posting in earnest about the "blood type diet" might have perfectly good intellectual capabilities outside of bullshit discrimination.

I used to hate tomatoes as well OP, now I love them. Maybe one day you'll enjoy them.

>>4901118
I found olives to be an acquired taste. First time I ate one I was like "what is this, some kind of sea grape (it was in brine)?" But I kept eating them so as not to offend our host and by the end of the night I was converted.

Personally I can't enjoy raw tomatoes for the reasons many mentioned here. The watery, slightly bitter taste, the texture of the flesh when combined with the taste. I just can't enjoy them. And yes I do believe they taint everything they touch with their juice. Its just a rather powerful flavor and once its in something its such a pain in the ass to get out I'd rather not eat it unless I'm not likely to get food in the near future.

Think is I like them almost every other way except raw. I love cucumbers and onions ( as long as they aren't cooked to a slimey consistency, again its a texture thing), squash, broccoli, various leafy greens... Oh well. Just sure is nice to have so many people come out and say 'grow up fgt, stop not enjoying what I enjoy. Retard manchild.' Ironic really.

Raw tomatoes are usually pretty disappointing on sandwiches, either they're hard and bitter or they've got too much liquid in them and drip everywhere. I don't bother with them.

This is what tomatoes are supposed to be used for:

The potato is the root ..sorta. Every eye on the potato is a potential root. So if you cut up a potato into chunks each with an eye then plant it. Each chunk will grow into a new potato plant. This does not work with supermarket potatoes though as they have been treated to prevent roots.

Stunning difference. One of the true "It's so much better if you grow it" fruits. If you live in a place that you can only grow early varieties, it might not be a big deal, but if you live where you can grow a proper tomato then you are really missing out.

Pickles are even worse and their flavor is so fucking potent. I always get cuban sandwiches without pickles and I often have to pick them off anyway. Once the fucking Columbia restaurant botched my order. How does that even happen at a good restaurant.
