I sometimes steam vegetables with one of those expandable steamer baskets. That's really it.

I use my bamboo steamer set.

I don't steam food in a steamer
i just toss it in a pot with about an inch of water

-I use a metal steamer basket in the bottom of a heavy pot

I also use a bamboo basket if it's like jaozi or tamales and I'm finishing the dish inside becuase I think they look kinda nice. I don't use them otherwise though, as they're pretty much just worse at actually cooking than using a covered metal pot with a metal steamer basket

I use that fold-out steamer basket that stores so nicely in a tiny tiny kitchen, and an inch or so of boiling water in actual pot. Steam for however long is appropriate for given vegetable.
