ITT we post our countries' national dish and we try to guess where we're from.

I'll start:

>> No.4763925

Izzat some smoerrebroed? Hello Danmark.

My country doesn't have a single national dish but a kajillion regional ones, so I can't play your game other than to guess the pics.

Problem with the U.S. is that there is no real national dish. I suppose you could make a case for hot dogs and apple pie, but that's only because of European immigrants adapting sausages and...well, apple pie isn't uncommon anywhere there are apples.

You might try to say something indigenous, maybe corn on the cob? Roast turkey? But that simply fails to take in the account of the size of the country and the vast differences in regional cuisine - thanks, once again, to immigrants.

I suppose the only thing to do is to fall back on McDonald's and ignore some of the best characteristics of the country for corporate homogeneity.

I'd say chicken stew/chicken and dumplings/chicken pot pie.
Every part of the country has a variation of it, be it the milk-based one in the upper south, the tomato based one in Louisiana, the pot pie of the northeast, the broth-based one of Pennsylvania and the overly vegetal Cali-style one. It's something I think most Americans have grown up with in some form or other.

Finland here. Funny enough, we have national dresses, national flowers, national songs, national sports, national fish, national animals, national trees, national dogs, national games, and god knows what else. But we haven't a national food.

I vote rye bread though. It's the first thing you miss when you go abroad for a longer time. A propensity towards rye bread probably lives in your genes, considering how it has allowed the people to survive to these days through endless winters.

well to be honest in my home country Ukraine we treat class like self made liquor or Borsh. Every family has its own recipe and the culture is about tasting each others creation and sharing tipps to make better liquor, borsh, kvas.

People rarely buy Kvas from the grocery store because they are more similiar to soda. You see, real kvas is actually more of a slightly sweet beer. Its brewed with special yeast and has added taste from dark bread for the main part.
The grocery store kvas however is usually done with some bread-like cheap aroma and the taste is covered by sugar.

I guess what Im trying to say is when you try to find a good Kvas, think of it more as a beer than a soda drink to find good taste, and that there is no ultimate kvas but the variety is the actual hook.
