So my girlfriend made me some delicious banana bread and I'd like to make her a meal to go with it so we can enjoy it together before I leave for a few months.

What goes well with banana bread?

>> No.4753876

smoked ham
garlic butter mashed potatoes
green beans

>> No.4753878

I've never had banana bread, what does it taste like? I can't imagine the banana flavor being intense...how sweet is it?

>> No.4753908

Moderately sweet. Not overpowering like cake.

>> No.4753913

sweetness level: not cloying. A lot like a breakfast muffin, or a banana I suppose.
banana flavor: you can taste the banana. If you can't taste the banana someone did something wrong, like not enough bananas, or not ripe enough.
sometimes banana bread taste more like the nuts and spices people add to it than is does like banana.

I've never eaten banana bread with anything besides a little butter as a dessert/breakfast/snack. I never thought it was something you'd incorporate into a meal...... what if you made stuffing out of it?

This x10000

Maybe get a honey baked ham.

Don't put it on the bread though, eat the ham separately. Just lightly butter the bread and savor the taste on its own. Yummm

I was referring more to what to have WITH the bread, not ON it. But that does sound pretty good.

What's wrong with being in the military? I joined the Army National Guard and now I get all of my college tuition paid for.

>>4753957
Interesting.

>>4753971
Okay, that does sound really good.

And yeah I was gonna put anything on the banana bread. I just wanted to know what sort of meal would complement the flavors of it so I could eat the banana bread with it on the side.

>banana bread cheesecake

I just had an idear

>> No.4754837

why does our banana bread always crack at the top middle of the loaf

>> No.4754883

>>4754837
Steam. The inside of the bread takes longer to cook so it creates steam while the outside portion solidifies. By the time the middle is cooked the steam forces open cracks on the top.
