Our two most popular sausages asides from hotdogs are breakfast sausage (uncased usually) and brats. So if it's got a case and not a hotdog, it's a brat or polish sausage.

IMHO bratwurst, kielbasa, spanish chorizo, etc. etc. are on the whole superior to hot dogs. Hot dogs are superior to burgers. Burgers can be awesome, but I think that sometimes they're just way too bland, even with extravagant topping. Hit a hot dog with some hot mustard, kraut, onions, whatever you feel like, and it'll be good. One thing I personally like to do other than kraut-mustard-onion is to pop it with some banana ketchup, cucumber, hot mustard, and mango habanero salsa. On a burger? It just wouldn't be right b.

Yes, the state of Wisconsin was mostly settled by germans and quickly began to lead american in both brewing and sausage making
Some genius decided to combine them and it is now common practice to simmer brats in beer and onions and or kraut before grilling, and from there it has spread to most of the rest of america to a lesser extent

I can buy "beer brats" at the store, and also enjoy boiling them in a beer bath (usually beer, onions, garlic, spices). Some people (like me) like to grill first for a sear, then boil, then either serve or dry a little on the grill then serve. Others like to boil in the beer to start out, then sear on the grill and serve.

Oh, and the onions in the beer bath are delicious as hell to put on your brat if you use a slotted spoon.

those look kinda eww...

I like brat burgers, but you have to get good brats, split the casing, then squish them. I just had some delicious ones that my friend's family cooked on the fourth wish mushrooms and cheese mixed in.

>> No.4631419

>>4631409
Your doing it backwards.

first sautee onions and peppers in pan. Then add them to an aluminum 9x9 pan. place them on direct heat over charcoal.

ADD BEER!!!!!!!!!!

once everything is simmering, move to indirect heat as far away from coals as possible. Add Brats/sausages/dogs.

Let cook for 20+ minutes with lid on.

When someone wants one, grill brat over direct heat for 1 minute a side to sear. Any other brats can stay in beer bath damn near indefinitely without over cooking or getting that shriveled up look to them.

Not the previous anon but yes. Texas, particularly central Texas, has a lot of German culture. During the late 19th c. there was a significant wave of German immigrants to the area and it's well known for beer and sausages. There's still been German immigrants coming even after that time, though. Currywurst got introduced to the community I grew up in during the 1970s when some Germans came and opened a restaurant. They had come there on a vacation, and decided to move there because they loved it so much and it reminded them of home. Anyway, my relatives were some of the first Germans in Texas, off the boat in 1846. I grew up eating old school German food, and was introduced to more modern German food through restaurants in town.
