If anything, it would be a flavoring. You can make a number of pastries, breads, or cakes with matcha. Simply replace any water ingredient with an equivalent volume containing matcha. I imagine chocolate goes well with matcha so you can make matcha cupcakes and chocolate frosting or vice versa depending on your tastes.
