4601720 No.4601720 [Reply] [Original]

So I live in Eugene, Oregon, and the local supermarkets aren't cutting it for me. I need to find English baked beans, back bacon and blood sausage, but I can't find them. Does anyone here know stores in at least Oregon that might have them, or places I can order them online to ship for reasonable prices? I need a full English breakfast so bad that I'm willing to spend a decent amount just to get it.

Also, English food thread, for those of us who actually like it. I venture that there is no better relish than Branston Pickle. Anyone disagree?

This is probably a good idea. It would be better to be self sufficient that forced to pay top dollar from a specialist store every time you want one. I think they use pork blood, oats and spices, put it in an intestinal case and then boil it, pricking it to stop it exploding obviously. I really want to try it, this blood sausage is always posted in anti-British food threads, funny how it is used as an insult when all yuro countries have a blood sausage of their own. Then again, I'm a real foodie and don't deny myself foods because they are weird. I want to try that eel jelly and kidney pie too.

For the baked beans, I am sure an American from an older thread said that American heinz vegetarian beans were the same as British beans. For the bacon I hear Americans call our bacon "Canadian bacon". As for the black pudding, I have no idea. I know Americans call offal disgusting so I doubt anyone would stock it. Try going to a good local butcher and ask if they or anyone they know stocks it. You might be able to buy pigs blood and an intestinal case from him for cheap and make your own. It's the law that everyone must eat a Christmas pudding on Christmas. It is a fruit pudding that is made up to a year in advance and constantly topped with brandy or rum. This allows the flavours to mingle. A coin is usually put in it and the one who finds it gets good luck, assuming they don't choke to death. It is served with brandy cream. All of this alcohol gives it one of its best features....

This is a great one. You make the suet base in the bowl, put sugar and brown sugar in, then put a lemon or two in after stabbing them, another layer of butter and brown sugar and then the top which becomes the base as it is made upside down. Put your foil on and then steamed for about 4 hours. Heavenly and oh so bad for you.

They are seasoned sausage rolls, sausage meat in puff pastry, a very common snack food and can be bought from petrol stations, bakeries or even frozen. I have heard Americans confused at this before. Pic related is what is known as pigs in blankets in the UK, sausages wrapped in streaky or American bacon.

A Cornish pasty is a specific type of pasty. It is the most famous and is even has the same protection as champagne in EU law. A pasty is a parcel of pastry, sort of like a pie except meant to be portable. A Cornish pasty is filled with skirt steak, potato, swede and onion, with salt and pepper. They have to be made in Cornwall and with those exact ingredients by EU law or it is illegal to use the name Cornish pasty in all of the EU. Obviously we have thousands of different pasties but that specific one is the only protected one and is an important part of the Cornish cultural identity.

Mince pies. Little sweet and spiced pies eaten at Christmas, they did originally have meat in them but as time went on it became less and less until it became what it is now. They were actually banned, along with Christmas, dancing, singing and all fun thing when we went full retard and got rid of our monarchy and became a republic. Thankfully people realised that was stupid and we became a monarchy again. Funny side effect of us becoming a republic, it caused half of Ireland to die.
