I got to talking with the old man behind the counter of the liquor shop and he recommended this bottle called Corner Creek. I tried it and it was undoubtedly the best stuff I've ever had, and it was only $20/750mL.

I pass it on to father in law who is really into that kind of stuff. He samples my bottle and immediately buys out the store.

The Yamazaki 18 year old is also a nice drink, but possibly a bit peatier than your typical Speyside malt, but not to the degree of a peat-heavy Islay malt. It's also expensive as fuck and nigh-on impossible to get outside Japan.

I once traded a nearly $200 Petsmart gift card to a Mormon for over $500 worth of booze. He won the alcohol as a door prize at a company party but, being Mormon, the hooch was wasted on him.
I got the gift card free because of a scam I ran on Petsmart; you know those cash off vouchers on receipts? Petsmart had them at the time, but the vouchers lacked any indication that they could not be stacked. I got nearly $200 worth of these vouchers over the course of a week (don't ask how) and stacked them all together to buy an expensive cat tree because I had a cat at the time. All I had to do was pay the tax in cash, no big.
The cat couldn't be fucked to use the thing, so I returned the tree. Petsmart refused to reimburse me the $200 in vouchers as cash, so they opted for a gift card for the price tag of the cat tree and reimbursed the tax in cash, just fine.

Anyway, amongst the booze the Mormon traded me was a bottle of Basil Hayden's as well as various other brands of various other types of alcohol. That was some pretty good bourbon. Try that, maybe?

I really enjoy older GlenDronachs and other highland semi-sweet highlanders as well as Ardbegs and older Bowmores. I can not speak about the Pappys as I have not opened them yet.

The most I spent on a single bottle was 1500 Dollars. It was a Rare Malt Selection 20 year old Coal Ila from 1975.

You are on entire other level, my man. Very cool. I've never had a GlenDronach....never even seen one on a shelf. I will keep my eyes open though. I do love a nice scotch. I think a good single malt is definitely more complex than even the best bourbon. However, I love the fact that I can get a bottle of bourbon for $10 here and have it be very tasty. Bourbon has a much superior quality-to-price ratio here in America for obvious reasons.

Have you tried Makers 46? If you like Elijag Craig and regular Makers I would imagine you'd really like the 46.

Don't knock bourbon too much. Pappy 20 is a lot better than many good single malts.

I can't recommend the GlenDronach 15 Year Revival enough. It is an amazing single malt for a very approachable price. If you see it, grab a bottle.

Thanks for the rec. Ever had Glenfiddich 15? I found that to be a pretty fantastic drink.

It's an alright mid tier scotch. I've never really been a Fiddich fan. As I said, I much prefer GlenDronach. The are really really good at choosing their aging wood.

Seconding this.

Bought a bottle based on reviews. Its great stuff. I dont drink whisky too often, and havent tried that many, but this is definitely good for the price.

The flavour is rich and warming, and it slides down so smoothly. And for only £40, I think its great value for money.

Had some of that as my first bourbon. It got markedly better once the bottle was half gone and the rest of it oxidized enough of the harshness away. But before that, it was just harsh and nasty.

How do you guys prevent oxidization on your open bottles?

Years? Do you drink a thimblefull once every full moon?

If you really want to keep it for that long, decant the bottle into two 375 ml decanters to minimize air contact with the spirit.

Or just drink it faster.
