Nigella Lawson had a nice watermelon daiquiri cocktail ; cubed, frozen watermelon, mixed with daiquiri (but you could sure use vodka or tequila).

Get a good cheap lager like Brooklyn Lager or Yuengling. If you want something hoppier get a cheap pale ale. I love craft beer but you can't throw back 6 barley wines at a cookout. Also, if you want a classy looking cocktail, gin and tonic with a lime wedge.
