How do I win at a buffet? I want to make sure I get the most for my money and get as much of it down as possible. I know to avoid rice but I'm otherwise clueless

>> No.4430991

avoid all starches in general, high ticket items like beef and fish first and the only crab you should be eating is the legs, any other dish that has crab in it is using the imitation stuff.
sushi is a trap, while you think you are getting a great deal by getting that expensive fish they are actually using it to get rice into you and make you stop eating faster.

I alternate my plates
hot savory
hot sweet
cold savory
hot savory
cold sweet
hot savory
and so on
keep different temperatures and flavors from plate to plate so you don't get burned out

if possible ask for a pitcher of water too because another common tactic is they do not keep your glass full so you can't eat as much and they basically try to choke you out.

this comes from a man that has been kicked out of 3 different buffets for over consumption

When you eventually get full make sure you go to the restroom alone right and make sure its only you there. Then throw up as much of the food as you can possibly throw up. Then go at the buffet again. I do this when I get extremely full.

Also if there is like a lounge area with a coach or some kind of a bench you can also take a quick nap there so you can eat again later, its quite possibly better if you have another person with you on the couch so you don't look like a homeless person.

On your first trip to the buffet from the table, you have two goals:
1. Collect your table's condiments. Put many tiny cups dishes of dips and sauces on a dinner plate. This will save room for future trips.

2. Reconnaissance. Just take in the lay of the land. What looks delicious, what looks sub-par. What are their money makers and what are their loss leaders.

Don't forget to have a salad or two along the way. The French serve salad at the end of a meal, because the fiber acts as a digestive. You can use this to your advantage, and it makes a great palate cleaner between courses.

Never put too much on a single plate. You have plenty of chances to go back for more, but if you fill up on chicken balls you'll never make it to the dim sum.

>> No.4431177

>>4431156
The majorit of those that have that sort of timing system are usually the Asian style BBQ or hotpot buffets, where you have some cold dishes and precooked food but the majority of if is raw so you can grill it at your own table and the Japanese style ones where it's not technically a buffet but you order as much as you want during that time period (but they charge you if you order too much and can't finish it if it's a unreasonable large amount of wasted food)
The price is probably 25 to 50% below the 'normal' price for a buffet in say.. a hotel and the quality isn't as good but it's still decent.

A friend who used to work in places like this says a tray of a hundred or so spring rolls are usually gone within 15 to 30 minutes; average turnover rate of those places during dinner time is around 500% during the weekends. Tack on another 250 to 500% during the holidays.

2-3plates of seafood especially clams, I stack crustaceans so yes, they are full plates. I just wished that they shucked oysters cleaner. If I eat fish, I go for the sashimi only, not wrapped with rice.
2plates of beef and chicken
1-2plates of salad no dressing, another smaller plate of spinach or broccoli if they have it
1plate of whatever appetizers they have+bowl of soup
then depending on how full I feel, fries and mash before doing desert which would be jello, some fruit cuts, and a few pastries.

I mostly drink water but I will sip soda if I'm in the mood. Water and salad helps me regain my appetite so I'm not going through the plate of salad by itself rather just a leaf or two inbetween my other plates. I do not go for sauces except gravy for the mash and that's near the end. You think I'm not enjoying my food? Hell yes I am on the few times a year I do go. I'm eating everything that I don't get to eat all at one place rather than the shit I can get easily at any other place seperately and seeing how much I can put into my stomach is actually fun on these occasions because everyone else thinks I can't eat that much due to being so small and looking like I'm underweight all the time.

I also get bored of eating the same thing after awhile and just stop eating even though I'm not full(which is why I can't do food challenges), buffets are the perfect place for me to eat a variety of stuff and not get bored.

Maybe you should stop going to cheap buffet places where they serve cheap garbage that you have to force yourself to enjoy a few dishes.
