Recovering landplanet hambeast here. I got rid of all the processed, fatty, pig disgusting foods in my house and decided to start buying fresh fruits, veggies, nuts and other ingredients to make food that is actually decent to put in your body.

But holy shit why is this all so expensive? I am also a povertyfag and just can't believe some of the prices I have been seeing. It costs so much more than the garbage I had been eating

What are some decent options for things to eat that doesn't cost a ton? I am working with about 50-70 dollars a week in grocery money.

any tips will be much appreciated

Good eggs are full of nutrition, buy pastured if you can. Buy whole chickens, roast them for a meal, make stock, and use leftover meat after you make stock that falls off the bones for salads. Carrots are cheap and versatile. Buy in season, learn to embrace ethnic markets.

That sounds like a decent budget. Stock up on rice, potatoes and pasta, they are cheap and will fill you up. Get cheaper cuts of meat like chicken thighs and always keep an eye out for discounts.

Pic sorta related, my grocery bill for the week. The American equivalent shouldn't be too different.

Let us count the ways

Rice: $1-2 a pound, parboiled is healthier
Beans: $1-2 a pound, $1-2 a can prepared
Bell Peppers: $.69 to $1 per bell
Cucumbers: $2 for three
Tomatoes :$1 for one. Canned is best bet and cheap as fuck, just do it. From $.50 per can to $2.00 depending on diced, whole, sliced, volume, etc.
Broccoli: It's horrible and nasty but cheap, like $1-2 a pound, which is a shitload.
Zuchinni: Once again cheap as fuck $.50 to $1 per Zuchinni, and I've seen it go as low as $.25
Eggplant: Fucking get them at Aldi's. 1 costs $1. Fucking amazing.
Onions: Lol these cost like $1 a pound. Cheap as fuck shit right there.
Garlic: Like $.50 to $1 a head. You can get these prechopped stuff it may or may not be cheaper/easier to use.
Potatoes: these often costs less than $1 a pound
Sweet Potatoes: The most amazing thing in the world. Like $1 a pound too maybe a bit more.
Rutabega: Fucking cheap as fuck. Usually like $1 for a big one which is like 2 pounds. WHY WOULD YOU NOT BUY THIS?
Turnips: They're not that bad. You can get a bunch for like $1-$2 and it comes with a lot of nice greens and the turnip itself.
Celery: A little expensive sometimes. But sometimes it can be found cheap. Bags are usualy like $2 and come with like 4 or 5 stalks
Asparagus: A little pricey and $3 a bunch. May come down to $2 sometimes. Still absolutely delicious.
Carrots: You can get them for like $1-$1.50 a pound.
Spinach: You can get a big box at Sams for like $5, a little pricey but it has like 3 pounds of Spinach in it.

A single plain salted baked potato should be less than 200 calories. Don't go overboard with stuff like butter and they should be fine.

Watching the amount of food you eat seems to help. I've lost 5kg since last summer by using only portion control, and I'm a lazy fuck who pretty much only leaves her room for lectures. If you can bring yourself to stop snacking, that's good too. Don't buy snacks. If you don't buy em you can't eat em. If you feel like you can't stop eating, quell the screaming demands of your belly with plain water, it really does fill you up.

Btw what are your stats, OP? Height, weight, gender, amount of physical activity.

Bananas: $1 a bunch usually. Just constantly buy them. If they turn black they're even better for Banana Bread or baked goods/ice cream

Apples: $1 a pound for the cheap ones. $2-$3 for the nice stuff. Nonetheless completely affordable.

Pears: Usually $1.50-$2.00. Even better than Apples IMO.

Oranges: This shit is like $1 a pound for even the nicest ones. But I hate Oranges so IDGAF.

Grapes: Only buy them in season. Outside they are too expensive and horrible tasting to fuck with. When in season you can get like 3 pounds for 3 bucks. Which is a shitload of grapes.

Strawberries: You can get like a pint box for $2-$3 dollars.

Blueberries: You can get pint for $2-$3 dollars too.

Blackberries: Tend to be a little mor expensive $3-$4 a pint box

Peaches: Fucking cheap as fuck in season. Find a local farm and you can get them as low as $.50 a pound. Usually see em in store for $1-$2 a pound otherwise.

Melons: You can buy one for like $2-3 dollars. Canteloupe is especially nice. But Watermelon is great too.

Mangos: Shits like $1 for one. Not as cheap as most stuff but delicious still.

Grapefruit: Honestly I wouldn't touch this nasty stuff. A fruit is like $1 and it's close to a pound though so. your choice.

Pineapple: Get it canned. Its like $.60 for a can. Jesus.

Can't speak for Pomengranites, Persimmons, etc. They aren't popular/onsale here.

I am nearly 650 lbs. I am so heavy that I haven't left my house in the last 3 years, its real bad. I started a plan that took my weight and height (6 foot 1) into account and they are recommending 5500 calories a day, which to me is still far excessive. I would like to realistically get it to about 3500.

The hunger is really the hard part. I was so used to eating massive amounts (I could eat a entire little caesars hot n ready and a Italian cheesebread for dinner) so my stomach is always wanting more as i've been eating much less.

That is the biggest problem. I have been trying to supplement my meals with healthier snacks like fresh nuts and fruit but the nut prices around here are so insanely high that I cannot really afford it. Yet I cant just eat light meals and not end up failing because the hunger is too great.

I just want to find cheap things to work in between meals so I can distract myself from the weaker hunger.

Like i said buy in season when broccoli is cheaper.
Soup
Bring two quarts of stock to boil, add a cup of brown rice and resume a boil. Once the boil is resumed, cover and reduce to a simmer. Cook two hours. Add two to four cups of vegetables. And simmer twenty to thirty minutes. Last time i made it I used a zucchini, carrot, celery, onions, spinach, and mushrooms but use what you have. Add spices right before serving if you want, but not necessary other than salt and pepper. I used tarragon, basil, and dill last time. If you have it, stir in a half cup of white wine. Serve.
A three dollar bottle of wine goes a long way in adding flavor to other dishes too.

Yeah like >>4391725 said just snack on some cheap veg. Personally I love baby plum tomatoes/cherry tomatoes because they're sweet and juicy and taste almost like candy. They last even longer if you cut them in halves and put them in small serving bowls. Keep 2 litre bottles filled with water next to you at all times, and drink from them every now and then to give you that full filling.

I used to buy snacks in bulk and tell myself that I would make it last, then accidentally the whole thing. Lesson: DON'T BUY UNHEALTHY SNACKS. You may have to power through the first few days relying heavily on willpower, but eventually your stomach will get used to not being stuffed all the time and shit will become easier and easier.

Damn. If I had to make a recommendation, check in with /fit/. You'd be surprised how many 'healthy' foods are actually quite bad when it comes to trying to lose weight.

Fruit comes to mind. It's really just pure sugar with a tiny amount of nutrition. An apple has as much sugar as a can of Coke.

Yogurt too is marketed to be 'healthy', but it's really packed full of sugar and shit. Unless you get full-fat, plain yogurt.

Look into eliminating sugar, and reducing empty carbs like bread, pasta, crackers, etc.

Focus on nutrient dense foods like whole eggs, cheese, meat, vegetables, seafood, nuts, and full-fat dairy.

Fat is very healthy for you. I assume, being 650lbs, you are very insulin resistant at this point. So avoid things that will spike blood sugar, aka, eat plenty of filling protein and healthy fats.

It started as a normally fatty. I eat out a lot, hated my mothers cooking and was too lazy to do my own. I used to work out and play sports on and off though so it was fat but manageable.

Then I ended up on probation for weed, tried hanging around the same friends and resisted...didn't work. Violated probation, and was given an extension.

Realized I had to stop hanging out with my old friends if I was going to beat probation, so I started just playing PC games back in 06 and ignored my friends. Got addicted to second life, world of warcraft, etc, and stopped moving. Kept eating bad.

Days turned to months turned to years. The heavier I got, the more I had to lose. I would diet but my willpower would wane after a couple months and i'd see how much I really needed to lose and how long it would take to do so and just give up.

This is my newest attempt as spring fever kicks in.

Its just really difficult when I know that I have to keep doing things I really dont like doing (working out and eating foods I don't enjoy as much) for 4-5 years before I will see the results I need.

BUY IN BULK.

I cannot emphasize that enough.

Honestly, I have found the exact opposite of OP's experiences, because I buy in bulk. My average meal, unless I splurge on an expensive cut of meat, generally costs cents per person. For a complete and filling meal. On the other hand pre-processed crap, if it's anything decent, is more like dollars per meal. My typical grocery shopping bill has cut in half, and I make fewer trips to the store.

So yeah, buy in bulk

The cons of being fat were never big enough for me to make me stop what I was doing. Especially when it was so much hard work and dedication needed to correct it.

My justification for it was that it didn't matter if I was a sloppy ham beast since I didn't care to hang out with my friends much anyways and was happier on the internet. On the net, no one knows you are a slob unless you tell them.

But now, it is at the point where I can't even live a normal life. I want to go outside, I want to be able to do things with my friends again and be a normal human.

I know these feels OP. For people who naturally maintain a healthy weight, it's really difficult to grasp.

It's such a big change in lifestyle going from constant junk food to healthy eating. I went from 350 to 230 (and unfortunately back again). I had to stop looking at food as an enjoyment, and start thinking of it as fuel, which i hated, as i really enjoy cooking and eating.

Its a tough struggle, and now being back to my heaviest is when i appreciate how good I felt having lost the weight. But keep at it.

Throw the veggies and chicken carcass in the pot, just cover with some water (clarification).

I recommend getting some dried beans, soaking them for at least 4 hours, cook them and then add them to you chicken stock, add more veggies and some chicken meat, and you have a simple soup. Soup is not really that hard, you can make it with anything you have in your fridge, all you need is a bit of stock + whaever ingredients you have lying around. The reason I suggest beans is because they fill you up longer, and they are really delicious.

If I buy any expensive ingredient I try to stretch it out by mixing it with cheaper ones. Don't eat sandwiches anymore unless you use low calorie bread

Don't eat toast

Don't eat pretzle sticks

Eat meat and Vegetables. Specifically greens.

Morning should be Eggs with greens mixed in . Onions and Bell Peppers diced or spinach. Maybe some low fat cheese on top. Oatmeal is also acceptable. Maybe with some greek yogurt But you really need a big source of Protein. That means Eggs, Greek Yogurt, Meat of some kind be it ham or otherwise.

Lunch needs to include some kind of protein. Peanut Butter is fine but a bit expensive in the amount to/protein threshold. Beyond that it's far too fatty. If you are going to eat eggs in the morning don't eat peanut butter for lunch.

Eat a chicken breast. Grilled in a George Foreman grill or something. Or cooked on a tabletop. Season it with some simple spices. Italian or BBQ spices rubs are good and low calories. Serve it with some boiled Peas and Asparagus. FrozenPeas can be cooked quickly in the microwave. Try baby peas. Some carrots too would not be bad. Or broccoli if you like it.

Dinner once again should be based on a nice lean cut of meat. Chicken, or Fish, Pork Loin can work as well. There are many different kind of flavorings that can work for these. Here you can cook something with a mixture of Onions, Bell Peppers, and Chicken, tomatoes may be involved too. Serve some beans with it. From a can if you must. But not baked beans those are full of sugar. You can also eat a carb here like some rice or potatoe but do not eat a massive amount of whatever carb you pick

A great low cal snack that tastes amazing is called papadums. A large one contains 30 calories, a smaller one containing 20. They cook in the microwave in 40-60 seconds which would be great considering the limited amount of time you have to spend on your feet.

Also, there's this thing called shiritaki noodles. I haven't tried them, but they're a 0 cal noodle. The downside is trying to find them in stores. I've looked everywhere and can't find them. You'll probably have to order them online.

Other than that, a great low cal food that really fills you up are baby carrots (or whole carrots)

Cabbage should also be a friend of yours. Low in calories and very cheap.

And if you need some protein without the fat and calories, check out "GimmeLean meatless ground meat." you can get it in the vegetarian section at Kroger, and it has 70 calories, 15g protein per serving (I think it's 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup, I'm not entirely sure). It tastes decent. Also, check out Boca Burgers. Same cal and protein amount, .5g fat.

That is all. Good luck.

Do you live on a fucking isolated island where all fresh foods are heavily taxed?

You're going to the wrong stores and buying the wrong shit.

1. Frozen veg, peas, carrot/cauli/broccoli mix, spinach, collards/etc

I live in wisconsin and I dont buy fresh broccoli. I just buy onions, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, artisan lettuce, green peppers, and mushrooms fresh.

> buying deli meat

No. Fuck. Never buy sliced sandwich meat. It's expensive as all fuck. Get like cheap cuts of chicken, look at the ounce weight of shit, get canned tuna and fish on sale.

I also have a problem with eating a shitton. But I fixed it by eating primarily carrots and apples as snacks, whenever I want. I buy birdseye normandy blend veggies and will get like 4 meals out of the bag. Just make sure to eat enough protein and if you fill up on veg with that you'll stay fuller.

I eat a lot of barley and oatmeal because it gets so much bigger when you cook it. Try making soups like.... a bag of split peas, an onion, 2 cups of carrots, broth, 5oz of ham, pepper and maybe cabbage.

You can just sit and chop and toss it all in. Easy peasy. Heheh geddit. Soups are really hands off and easy to make... plus low cal and filling.

After not eating junk a the time for a while my taste buds taste everything amazingly. I dont need dressings for salads and can't even drink juice as is from a bottle because it's too sweet.

The easiest way to avoid eating shit foods is to never buy it. You might go home and cry and all you can think about is that shitty pack of M&M's, but if you have impulse control problems it is MUCH MUCH better to not even allow yourself any every once in a while. Hey OP,

One thing I haven't seen here is that you should try to eat more frequent meals that are smaller than a pizza and breadsticks.

I was 285 two weeks ago and I am down to 279 now and its continuing to drop from how I am carrying myself.

My meals typically go something like this:

Breakfast - 3 packets of quaker instant oatmeal or 2 egg omlette with onion red bell pepper baby spinish and a slice of cheese. Along with this I always make a pot of green tea.

Snack - Wheat thins and cheese or some fruit.

Lunch - Usually I go downtown and get a sandwich only because I don't have time to cook a bunch of shit on Sunday and bring it in throughout the week, I am trying to change that though!

Snack 2 - Baby carrots or red pepper and hummus, hummus is delicious and filling.

Dinner - Something small.

I worry about just going low fat, I think it would be better for your body if you just maintained proper nutrition and just let it use your fat for energy.

Since I have been snacking, I find that I have a TON of energy and it seems like my metabolism is sky high, thus burning calories when I do nothing. On top of that, I do not feel hungry at all during the day after the few days it took my body to get used to it.

A while back I lost a bunch of weight by not eating, and it was a terrible idea because I put it all back plus like 20 pounds because I was just doing it to look better. I remember when I was putting it back on I could feel the mound in front of my body growing and restricting my mobility and I hated it, but I couldn't stop. This time though I am doing it the correct way, with the goal of being healthy and living a long life with my wife and children.

I know I am just talking about my own shit now, but I guess I just hope you can just make lifestyle changes with the goal of becoming healthy first, and having weight loss be a second(but naturally occurring) goal.

You seem like a cool guy, and I hope you can do it.

It's pretty good and just make sure you don't use too much flour, you'll want a denser bread otherwise the sweetness from the applesauce and bananas won't be as strong.

I dont remember the recipe because I usually just eyeball it, sorry. Baking soda, baking powder, salt, mashed banana, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, applesauce, and yogurt are the ingredients though.

Sloppy the only way I was able to lose weight was really to completely eliminate some shit from my diet, like butter and cheese and bread, pasta, rice, etc. I cant fucking control myself and my eating habits and snacking habits. So I just dont buy it because I know I can't control it.

My food list is pretty much this-

Veg
> cabbage, onions, potatoes, carrots, frozen peas, frozen spinach, frizen mixed veg, green peppers, lettuce, mushrooms
Fruit
> apples, bananas, and full fruit spreads
Dairy
> regular cottage cheese, plain yogurt, 2% milk, low fat cream cheese
Meat
> boneless skinless chicken breasts, pork sausage, cheap ham cut up and portioned
Other
> peanut butter, lentils, split peas, red beans, black beans, great northern beans, canned Italian tomatoes, barley, sushi rice, Mom's Best Honey Oats, quaker quick oats, steel cut oats, coffee, honey, bouillin cubes.

And general baking supplies including applesauce, as well as spices.

I have to fuck with my mind when I shop, look at ounce weight and I do all this math in my head and think about all the money I'm wasting if I get something not on my normal list. Shit over 15c an ounce is really very expensive. You can live without those things easily and still eat good food. But I have to cook all the time. Helps that I am really fond of soup.

My soup base is usually a can of tinned italian tomatoes, cabbage, water, half a bouillon cube, and lentils.

Fellow recovering hambeast here; I've dropped 50lbs since starting. $50-70 isn't too bad really. I've started drinking protein shakes for breakfast with a bowl of oatmeal (260 calories total) and it makes breakfast way easier. The big jars/tubs of protein shake cost about $50, but last a month or two.

Chicken thighs have been my friend. Not the leanest cut, but very cheap and flexible. At about 140ish calories each, they aren't going to kill you. Just make sure they aren't sitting in their own fat when they cook, and yank the skin off before you cook. For that matter, whole friers are nice.

Squashes have also been a pretty good bet, at pennies on the lb. I usually slice them thinly, and cook with the chicken. Brown rice makes a good side at about $1/lb dry.

Salmon heads. Jesus babyfucking Christ are they cheap and delicious (probably work out to $1-2/lb for the edible portion, if they're leaving the collars on). Again, fattier than regular salmon, but no worse than the chicken thighs.

What's working for me here is eating stable for the calories I need at my level of activity, and desired weight. I started with a torturous 800 calories a day for the first month, but now I'm never painfully hungry at 1500-2000 as a 6 ft. tall male.

I am waaay late to the game, but if you like chili, it is very low cal. Get a slow cooker, since you have trouble standing. You can get cheaper, leaner cuts of beef and stew them for a long time. Lots of things are tasty in the crock-pot. If you go to foodnetwork.com, Ellie Kreiger makes good recipes that are low-cal. Her three-bean chili is only something like 230 calories per serving.

Hey /ck/, I'm also trying to cut down on weight (19.1st or 267lb by 6 foot something, haven't had height measured since I was 14) and had some questions;

A) Is a 1,600 calorie diet a good idea at this stage? I've been doing it for about 3 weeks now bar one failed day

B) How often is it a good idea to eat pork/red meat? I don't really like fish and Poultry would get fairly repetitive on its own. I've heard twice a week is a good safe limit for Red Meat, but is that two meals per week or two days per week?

C) Should I bother trying to consume more milk? I never used to and am now having a small glass of milk per day ('bout 200ml of skimmed) and am just wondering if the nutritional benefits are worth it

D) How do I into cooking, I'm quite lazy and as such I'm limited into eating small quantities of processed foods

E) Are lemon's a good fruit snack? I've been just flat out eating one every now and then but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Also how careful should I be about consuming it?

Prices are decent, all except for the salmon. Unless you got a really, really small amount of it. Halfway decent seafood is fucking expensive as fuck in America. Unless it's shellfish in season. Occasionally mussels and clams become super affordable. Even frozen shrimp and whatnot is so much more costly than it should be.

Try to cut down on eggs. I know you're a bigger guy, but for the average person, one egg has nearly the amount of cholesterol that should be consumed in a day. It's all in the yolk though, so what you can do is make 1-2 whole eggs, and then honestly use as many egg whites as you want within reason. Or swap out your whole eggs for egg whites entirely. They're still quite good (for scrambling and omelets you gotta watch because they dry out easier than whole eggs would), and the average large egg white has something like 14 calories. No fat.

It sounds like you haven't had enough fruit or vegetables so far. Try incorporating salads, fresh fruit, and steamed/roasted veggies in with your meals. I don't agree with Michael Pollen on everything, but the man was right when he said, "Eat food. Mostly plants."

Finally, you might consider switching up the frequency with which you eat. Instead of spacing apart three decent-sized meals per day, maybe having six small ones would work better for you. Eating more frequently can satisfy your brain enough to stop telling your stomach you're hungry, because you keep stimulating your digestive system, which in turn keeps telling the brain that there's food in it. Plus, you'll probably be eating a wider variety of things than you might in three meals. This gives you the false sense that you're eating more than you are. If that makes any sense.

1600 calories is too few calories for you. Use a calorie calculator to determine what you should be eating to lose weight, aim for losing one to two lbs per week. Anymore and it is unrealistic for you to stick to it for very long. I calculated that if you wanted to lose 75 lbs in a year, which is a realistic goal, and guessed at your age (I said 23). It estimates you should start off eating about 2000 calories and then recalculate for every ten pounds you lose. Right now, if you aren't getting any activity, you are burning about 2500 calories a day just being alive. Reduce that by 500 a day and you will start losing weight, a pound or two a week. http://www.webmd.com/diet/healthtool-metabolism-calculator is the calculator I used. I guessed you were six feet tall, so you might want to adjust that.
This guy >>4391817 will try to promote his diet to you, if you want to try it then go for it. I don't like it for numerous reasons, mainly being it is too restrictive and unrealistic for me. I went with a diet that focused on nutrition (it is called Eat Fat Lose Fat) and was high in healthy fat/ low in carbohydrates (not completely cut out, and I only ate complex carbs) and moderate in calories. It worked well for me, but there are several ways to tackle this you just have to find the one right for you.
I have to say that lowering your intake carbs and sugars is a good idea though.

I eat pork about twice a week and red meat about the same. That means I have one serving twice a week by-the-way. I do try to eat pastured/wild animals since they are healthier, generally have less fat on them and taste better. They do tend to be more expensive. The pork I get is usually tenderloin. The red meat I have access too is venison and I get it for free. It is very lean, and has a healthy wild diet so that is good. I rarely eat beef, unless I can get a good deal on grass fed. My staples are meatless meals, chicken, turkey, or fish.

skim milk is useless, if you are only drinking 200ml the drink whole milk, it is better for you. If you are hung up on the idea that whole milk is bad for you then, drink 2% but really the whole milk is better nutritionally. It will also keep you satiated longer.

stop eating processed foods, it makes it easier to eat junk food and they generally aren't healthy. I recommend "How to cook everything" by Mark Bittman. I am not going into what to eat because it varies by diet, but if you stick to a protein and two vegetables for lunch and dinner and a protein and a piece of fruit for breakfast you will be fine. It is ok to use a little butter too, just figure it into your caloric intake. Try to eat a salad every now and again too. Eat all vegetables. Eat a variety of them weekly. ( don't keep eating the same ones every meal)

Don't eat whole lemons in one sitting, they wear away the enamel in your teeth and can fuck up your stomach. You can squeeze a wedge into your water if you want.
OH, drink plenty of water.

If you want to cook frugally at home you have to keep your larder stocked. If you just run out and buy what you need for a particular dish on the rare occasions you cook you're not saving any money over dining out.

I cook every day, and have probably $150's worth of stores (oils, spices, beans, rice, canned tomatoes, pasta, nuts, coffee, utility produce, vinegar and such) at any given time. When I shop I pick up whatever fresh ingredients I need for the next few days, plus replace whatever is running low in my stores.

That might seem like a bit of an investment, but it allows me to make a rotation of about 75 dishes cooking every day. And some of those dishes are under $3 a serving. Many are under $2, and a handful are about a buck a meal.

>> No.4394276

Fifty a week sounds fine for one person. Get the Sunday paper and start cutting coupons.

I would buy the basics; potatoes, bread, cheese, lettuce, pasta noodles, sauce, cereal, milk, some frozen veggies, etc.

As for spices, just stick with onion and garlic powder. Don't get too fancy unless you can afford it.

Then some meat of your choice, if you eat meat. I'd get a whole chicken, you can really do a lot with chicken. Alfredo, sandwiches, salad, fajitas, etc. Just keep things simple for now since you're on a budget. Meat + potato + veggie. Or maybe some rice.

For snacks I would get tortilla chips and salsa, or baby carrots or some yogurt.

I think allrecipes has a "on a budget" tab with a bunch of recipes. I could be wrong though.

at this point, you should do PSMF - protein sparing modified fast

1. Eat whatever your goal weight is in grams of protein, so if you would like to be 150lbs, then eat 150g of protein
2. Take multivitamin and extra potassium/magnesium (multis can't fit all that shit in)

that's it, don't eat anything else, it will just impede your fat loss (extra calories)

B. Eat lean cuts of red meat. If you're trying to lose weight, I would hold off on eating the fattier cuts until you're at your goal weight, then eat once a week. Also, are you sure you don't like fish? I think that's something people tell themselves but they just don't know how to prepare it well.
C. No need to consume more milk unless you are a baby cow. You can get calcium if you;re eating vegetables at every meal. (green, leafy).
D. Every meal you cook for yourself will likely be healthier than anything you buy prepared. Search "beginner's recipes" and start from there. Eat a lot of omelets and salads too.

Processed food always costs more than fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, meats, ect ect. Food is unbelievably cheap, if you think it is expensive, you're shopping wrong.

Start learning how and where to stop. If you live in a city with ethnic grocery stores or farmers markets. Shop for vegetables and fruit at these places. You can buy all manner of produce for HALF the price of a typical grocery store.

Have important stables on hand and buy these in bulk. This means hiting up an asian market or an indian grocery store so you can buy a 15-20+lbs bag of rice. Larger bags of rice lower the price of rice by more than half. Buy bags of dry beans in bulk. Buy flour and yeast and make bread from scratch. Buy a bananas once a week and eat at least one or two a day. It is cheap healthy food which provides tons and tons of energy for less than two dollars a bunch. Lean how to create your own salad dressings with vinegar and oils (I like walnut oil and rice vinegar). Have huge bags of frozen vegetables in your freezer. Buy eggs in bulk. Yes, those huge boxes with 36 eggs are your friend. Buy decent meat from places like Costco, Sams, or BJ's Wholesale. You can buy entire chickens at Costco for 69 cents a lbs. You can freeze the chickens until you're ready to use em. When you cook em, you can eat the meat and use the carcass to make chicken stock. You can freeze the chicken stock and have it ready and waiting anytime you want to make soup or gravy.

He easily spends more in one day on food than I do in two weeks. Throughout the day he keeps going to the drive through to buy large cokes and fast food with his mom. Not surprisingly, she is just as obese as he is. If they decide to go to a gym they walk on a treadmill for 10minutes and then hit up a convenience store to buy 20 dollars worth of candy bars, chips, and soda to reward themselves for doing good at the gym. They drink diet sodas throughout the day, but they reward themselves with real soda a few times a day. What they don't realize is HOW much sugar is in solution. The sad thing is that the diet sodas are WORSE for the obese than the sugar sodas. During the studies on artificial sweeteners, all the rats blew up like balloons and became morbidly obese because of how the artificial sweeteners change how the body metabolizes certain things. It is no wonder that whenever I see an obese person in public, they almost always have a can or bottle of diet soda in their hand.

That is good man. The key to exercise is to maintain a diet and routine that you can keep improving and expanding upon. The more you workout, the more you can workout. If you can't workout at all. It doesn't mean you can't do anything. That guy who was known as the 650lbs virgin lost 100lbs this year BED RIDDEN. He broke his leg really bad and had been totally immobile for months. At your fat percentage, provided you intake vitamins and enough minerals (primarily electrolytes) you could most likely fast down at least 100 lbs of fat mass with very little lean tissue loss (the larger % of fat means more muscle sparing).
