What else can I put in hot chocolate besides the usual spices? Cinnamon, clove, ginger, vanilla, pepper, I think that's about it.

How do I put mint in it? I used syrup before, and it just... vanishes in the liquid. It was vanilla flavoured, though.

Cardamom.

Cayenne.

>vanilla flavoured mint
wut

Not hot chocolate, but I sometimes add thinks like star anise, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. to coffee. Always do fresh pods/spices, makes a huge difference.

White hot chocolate with a pinch of cardamom is amazing.

Others:
>dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, chili
>infuse the milk you use with orange before making
>infuse the milk you use with mint
>infuse the milk you use with star anise and/or licorice root
>add coffee or espresso

Expert mode: caramelize white chocolate and make a drink out of that. It'll be pretty sweet obviously so a higher milk to chocolate ratio is required, but my god is it good. Just be careful caramelizing, it's pretty easy to fuck up and end up with a burnt or seized mess if you're not paying attention.

Caramelized white chocolate is a bitch to make, but is can taste so good when made right (and with a good brand of chocolate). I totally second this. You can also add some orange or cardamom to give it some flavour boost.

PEANUTBUTTER.

Actually, probably any nut butter. Have to mix it well, though.

You could also put some sort of liquor, maybe. People do it for coffee, afterall. Or yeah, add coffee.

You could also do a different level of thickness by adding more or less liquid.

I'm surprised no one's suggested a homemade marshmallow yet.

Fucking Candy canes rule for your coffee. The perfect stirrer that later melts into the perfect sweetener.

Peanut butter isn't gonna melt and blend, it's just gonna make your hot chocolate have soft chunks and be gross

coffee

Use creamy peanut butter. Have a little in a bowl, then add some hot chocolate to it, mix until blended, then add some more, mix until blended, add some more and mix until blended until you have something that is more liquid than 'butter', THEN add it to the cup.

Marshmallows are for garnish only. Otherwise you're just putting a chunk of sugar in your hot chocolate.

I sometimes make aztec inspired chocolate without milk or sugar and cayenne pepper + hot chilli powder instead

This. If you melt the peanut butter and chocolate into a mixture before adding your milk it would work, it's not like you're just dumping peanut butter into finished hot chocolate (hopefully you're not at least).

Also, home-made marshmallows for topping it with. Can't beat that delicious fluffy goodness.

Thirded. Caramelized white chocolate is amazing and drinks made from it are godly. I flavor mine by infusing the milk with a vanilla bean and then adding a little bit of cinnamon at the end.

I found a pretty neat trick video on making caramelized white chocolate. All it takes is a vacuum seal and a pressure cooker.

I strongly recommend smoked chilli - it fits perfectly for brownies, coco and chocolate fondue

this, it's great with some chili powder in it
