Anyone know the easiest/cheapest way to make steamed milk if I don't have an espresso machine with a frother?

And where do you guys get your beans?
Just at the grocery store or order them online?

So looks like this is the most cost efficient way to get around to steaming, or frothing if that's different, milk

Is it important to get one of those stainless steel frothing cups?

And where should I look for good beans?

Empty vessel, add some milk, shake, voila.

Try it with the milk carton when it's near empty.

If you have a french press, you can put in a small amount of milk at the bottom and shake the plunger up and down. It'll make frothed milk. Steamed is a bit different, but if you've already got the press, this method is definitely easiest.

Alright, first off, you cannot perfectly duplicate the effects of an espresso machine steam wand with any other method.

Not only is it watering down the milk very subtly with it's steam, but it's creating a microfoam with the texture of shaving cream or the head on a pint of Guiness. Now the microfoam doesn't just occur on it's own, a steam wand can make bubbles anywhere from microscopic on up to the size of a tablespoon, with not much more than the skill of the barista determining what you get.

That said, the french press method described above is likely the best method. Use a microwave for your heat. Seriously, it'll be fine.

Regarding steaming pitchers, if you're not using a steam wand you don't need one. They're heavy to absorb heat and round so a vortex can form and have a spout so you can ignore it and pour from the side like a hipster faggot. If you're not using a wand, these are all pointless.

Lastly, the steaming job in your pic is fucking horrible. I'd get bitched out for that. Hard.

I use one of these. They're pretty cheap. You heat the milk in it on the stove, then pump the little ball on top and it moves a mesh thing around inside.

Also, everything this guy said.

If you want to have espresso without an espresso maker, the closest you can get is with a macchinetta and the thing I just posted.

My grandparents grew up poor in Italy and would have "peasant" macchiatos. They made the"espresso" in a macchinetta and would top it with a dollop of cream that was beaten with sugar until it got frothy.

Would you suggest using the thing you posted over >>4324323 ?

Yes, absolutely. That little electric thing doesn't work well for a large volume of milk, and the froth is thin and disappears quickly. At least, in my experience.
