>implying anyone on /ck/ wouldn't happily trade their life for his

If I could make a living traveling around, eating local foods, getting smashed on local booze, doing local drugs, etc... I would consider myself a king among men.

>> No.4280720

I'd give a testicle just to be on his show. God only knows what I'd do to be him
On a somewhat unrelated note, that episode of Archer that he guest starred in was fucking hilarious

>> No.4280730

He seriously has the perfect job

The nomad lifestyle really isn't for me. Nor is that much time away from the wife and home. Or does she go too?

except he is more than guaranteed to die of some form of cancer so I would not do it

My parents bought me tickets to go hear him talk next month locally. Might be cool, he was awesome as shit in the new episode of Archer.

I used to like him but nowadays he's become everything he claimed to hate.
>Only dining in fancy restaurants.
>Talking more about himself and random people than the place he visits.
>Staying in the most expensive hotels.
>Dedicating entire episodes to his friends and wife.

Watch a couple of his early episodes and see that little twinkle in his eye.
Now it's replaced by monotony and emptiness.

i agree sort of

the first seasons were great, i really enjoyed his bitterness and sarcasm, yet the show was always interesting. the later episodes are just him showing off all his friends, i couldn't even finish half of them. that damn episode with josh homme was the stupidest thing i've ever seen. he lost his edge, next thing you know they'll be making bourdain action figures or t-shirts.

>they probably already have

Yeah, he has a daughter. I knew he'd lost that last bit of awesomeness when I saw the pic of him holding a My Little Pony for his daughter. And now he's on that shitty food contest show that sucks huge balls. I understand though, parenthood changes you. I used to be the person that no party was complete without, until I had a kid.

>> No.4282320

>>4282302
he said that that food contest show was the farthest from what he'd usually do but he's good friends with the judges and thought it'd be interesting.

I think he gets the irony of hosting a show like that but he just doesn't give any fucks.

I think he's in money overdrive. He has a kind of crazy wife, and now a kid, and he's in money mode. I think he's just making excuses for why he's doing a shit show.

More like he wants money and doesn't give a fuck about his perceived "street cred" as much as you'd believe.

He pushed his cool persona and "rough past" bit until it got him in the mainstream, now he is ready to cash in on it.

he's old. he's lived a bit hard. he isn't gonna be alive that much longer.

he's getting money together for his family

>> No.4282452

I think that Tony in his current form is just proof that having kids changes a man.

Of course he's going to take a job being a judge on a retarded show where he gets to be with his family instead of spending months on the road engaging in entertaining and pleasurable but ultimately self-destructive behavior.

She travels with him, yes. She's in few episodes.

>> No.4282503

I used to like him, but over the past 5 years that show's run off the rails/jumped the shark etc. Its all so formulaic and predictable and he's turned old/gray and fat.

Its just not exciting or interesting anymore. And from what I've seen of his cooking, I'm not all that impressed.

Pretty much. One of the essays in "Medium Rare" is essentially him admitting that he's no longer the person he was when he first became famous, explaining why he sold out, and looking at why even the "celebrity chefs" with a solid cooking background do (he uses Emeril as an example).

They mean Medium Raw. I wish he had another book out, I've read everything he's put out including his novels. Which everyone here should read because they are -brilliant- crime novels with sex and food. I mean, c'mon.

hey fags tony did an AMA the other day and it was really interesting
he talked extensively about his drug use
and he said he loves not cooking anymore and sitting back, eating good food, and generally being spoiled

he's an older guy whose made it big and i think he is just appreciating what he's got without.... any reservations
