What does /ck/ think of my tuna patties? I finely diced some celery and pickle, minced some garlic, then mixed in some tuna and some kosher salt. Then I mixed in some egg and flour as a binder, then formed it into patties and fried to perfection. Served on a bed of rice and lentils.

>> No.4273772

I was surprised at how good it tasted considering the recipe is bass off something from /fit/.

Sounds good OP, but not sure about the lentils, seems meh.

Why didn't you serv on a bun with tarter sauce?

also white rice looks great with the dish, I might have fried it, but I think it looks great, Why not add a little meat, or some more fish or herbs to the dish to make it more presentable?

I agree with most of your suggestions, however I am a studentfag, so my resources are limited. I'll keep your ideas in mind next time I plan in making it. I used lentils because most of my meals use rice and lentils as a filler.

also culinaryfag.

Well then, lets see... on a budget, why not use eggs to fry up the rice, if its the case that you're poor then clearly lentils was a good choice.

you might want to try buying some flour and learning how to make dumplings that way you could just make tons of dumplings and rice, you get to fill up, and show up to friends.

>> No.4273900

>>4273846
Not a bad idea, thanks. I'll look up how to do that and get what I need when I get groceries this week. I'm not really poor, but I consider myself to be fairly frugal so I try to spend as little as possible.

>> No.4273922

>>4273900
Should be fairly easy, what you can do is either than, or buy some spices and find ways to beef up your meal. If you aren't into meat, then i suppose you could use either fish instead or just season your rice in a variety of ways and just use whatever you want to go with the rice, using rice as the main course.

>> No.4273935

>>4273922
I have no problem with meat, I just usually buy a small amount of it for flavor and use rice/lentils to stretch the meal.

Go to a small butcher, ask for a special deal since you're a student, buy meat straight from him for cheaper (possible discount, if you volunteer to work under him he might give you a little free meat, or all the fat trimmings you want)

a good effort! i'd eat / 10. i think a bit more spice woulda [chili powder or paprika maybe] done it good, but having not tasted it i could be wrong. those kind of tweaks are merely preferential anyhow. carry on.

mine turned out great, added mozzerella and celery. Needed tarter sauce, but otherwise very tastey.

That would be because it is a college dorm, and I am a college student. Yes, I used canned tuna, and I just kind of broke it apart with my hands until I got the texture I wanted.

> It's not like you were cranking out michellin star meals the first time you got in the kitchen

you have a very good point there. I still toss out food once in a while.

> if you discourage people, they'll never bother to become better cooks

another very good point, but one I have to object to. I cannot encourage such an attitude towards food. two minutes of thinking about how the tastes will (or in this case will NOT) blend together would have produced a much more enjoyable meal, at literally zero extra cost and effort

Christ alfuckingmighty on a fucking pogostick
of fucking course garlick is excellent
it's just that (unless you are using old smelly fish, and even then) it absolutely kills the fishy flavor
might as well eat chicken at that point
garlick on snail? another issue altogether
garlick in a pungent calamari salad? fuck yea!

I could still very much taste the tuna, it's not like I put an entire head of garlic in there. I only put in a small amount, just enough to notice it was there.

>> No.4274580

>>4274569
I'd disagree. I think that if you use the right garlic (I'm partial to elephant) sparingly on a strongly flavored fish (salmon comes to mind) it complements it very well. And in the case of canned tuna, I'd prefer if some of the inborn flavors were overpowered by other ones.

>> No.4274582

I have this very recipe in my stomach right this moment, and it was fucking delicious. Sautee the garlic and onion a little before you mix it in there. If you're on a diet, this is wonderful.

And for everybody flipping their computer desks over in rage, you can play with the spices and ingredients if you want. Sheesh.

They would usually keep things fairly simple. Just mince a clove or two of garlic for a portion of fish big enough for three or four people, add a little salt, some lemon juice, maybe some parsely, then fry it in butter. There was never so much garlic that it overpowered anything else, it was just one element out of many in the flavor.
