I say this in every thread.

Natural Ice. Get it as cold as possible, and pour it into a chilled mug. The colder the better. Cold, cold, cold.

Eat a big, warm meal like some Tex-Mex and wash it down with a few of these.

Someday I'm going to own a deep freeze specifically for beer mugs.

one of the best beers ever had were these pony bottles of miller genuine draft. buddy and me were working on my car, it was fucking hot, even after dark, and we had a cooler of them on ice. got done for the night and popped them open. best fucking beer ever.

although we did try same ones another night on ice, no where near as good as when we were exhausted and hot.

Actually, it's not. If you want original Hoegaarden, look for two beers called Celis White. One is brewed by the Michigan Brewing Company and is pretty easy to find in the US. The other is brewed by Van Steenberge in Belgium. That one is called Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America. They're brewed to the recipe that Celis made when he recreated his original Hoegaarden recipe in the US, and I think they both had his approval.

I used to work on a vineyard, tending vines. After a 10-hour work-day out in the sun, ice cold old mill was the most refreshing thing out there. I don't even know how it works, most beverages I drink warm, but cold, cheap lager after a long hot day just hits a spot that no other beverage can touch.

Belgian yeasts are workhorses, and the brewers generally add some form of simple sugar which ends up in a beer that is drier (containing less residual sugar) than most other styles

From the actual beer stores, you are correct there. I don't find the same at bars, however. Downtown Montreal is probably the only place that can rival a place in Toronto like Bar Volo, or similar.

As a Torontonian I must ask: While I understand you folks in Quebec don't have the same restrictions we do, is your selection there that much better? I didn't personally find it to be cheaper by much when I was in Montreal a few years ago, but I only went to a 7-11, really.

I moved here from Ontario a couple years ago, and I have to say macro beer at most stores can be 1/2 the price compared to across the river.

Because Ontario is restricted by LCBO/Beer Store distribution, I find they don't have many microbrews (except on tap). Because a microbrewery could sell small quantities to a couple stores, as opposed to being required to supply all LCBO/Beer Stores for consistent inventory, you do find lots of microbrews in Quebec.

I don't really go to bars anymore so I can't say much about beer selection in Quebec bars. I know the Rebel House in Toronto had an awesome selection and was impressed with many bars there too.

My God. Bay Street, nay, most of Canada would be unproductive if we were making what we are here in the city with 1/2 the price for alcohol. I knew it was cheaper, but that not much.

So with new years I will be staying at my grandmothers because she's ill and we get along great, but she fucking hates it when people drink for some reason.
