anyone suggest a good boruban between $30 -$50?

Also what are your guys thoughts on Southern Comfort

bourbon

Southern Comfort is delicious and sweet. It's a good change of pace if you're a new bourbon drinker. It has a hint of flavors from back when prohibition and moonshine limited good french brandy imports. So, you'll pick up a little cherry or amaretto, and about half the spice of say a spiced rum.

You'll hear alot of snickers about it because it's known to be sweet, but do what you want, seriously! It's an old recipe and a southern tradition. The new lime flavor is good, especially if you're an amaretto sour fan. It's good with Coke.

My only issue with southern comfort is the sugar. It gets cloying if you're going to drink it all night, especially if Coke is your mixer.

Southern Comfort is not bourbon, it's a liqueur

Maker's Mark is a good one to start with, then maybe Elijah Craig, Evan Williams Single Barrel or Elmer T. Lee depending on availability. Bulleit Bourbon is overrated, but they bottle a good Rye.

I'm almost through a bottle of Evan Williams single barrel. Picked it up for $27. Well worth the price if you ask.

>"Southern Comfort is an American liqueur made from neutral spirits with fruit, spice and whiskey flavorings.[1] The brand was originally created by bartender Martin Wilkes Heron in New Orleans in 1874,[2] and is now owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation. Although the original product contained whiskey, the current formula for Southern Comfort only contains whiskey-tasting flavoring rather than actual whiskey (except for the premium version called "Special Reserve").[1]"

I meant that they are similar in how they are advertised (though Jack Daniels probably markets more), but more importantly in how they are made.

They both start with a neutral base (spirits or carbonated water) and then they add in flavoring, coloring, and sugar (probably high fructose corn syrup) to make the finished product.

It's a lower-middle-tier bourbon, pretty heavy on the sour taste if I recall.

If you want a great bourbon that doesn't cost much, I highly recommend W. L. Weller if you can find it. It's cheap everywhere I've seen it, but on the OP's chart I'd put it right above Knob Creek.
