So /ck/. I mistakenly purchased two pounds of lard thinking it was an alternate brand of shortening.

Now as someone who washes everything that comes in, including groceries, I don't think I'll be able to return them because the package is all twisted.

Anything I can do with lard? I was thinking of making something in symmetry to compare and use it to get my flake on but I'm open to suggestions.

I lol'd.

Fuck off Sceak, you've been on /ck/ for 10 years you should now about lard and psychic gang stalking RCMP olympic nazis.

Lard > Shortening

You can use it for the same things.

>> No.3908889

there is no doubt that whatever you make with it will be pig disgusting with your homocooking skills, but I'd go for pie crust, puff pastry or just fry *name anything* in it.

frying your own tacos in lard is SO MUCH better than buying pre-made hard shells.

this major OCD chinese woman on my street does that. She puts the groceries at the edge of her driveway and washes them with a bucket of water and sponge before bringing them in.

Like the bags and packaging.

It's fucked.

I'm vegan, though. I'm not too hot to the idea of cooking with lard and that's A LOT of lard.

I would be far more concerned with all the untested cleaning products that are pumping your living area full of VOCs (among other things) than small amounts of harmless bacteria.

So? We don't live in a sterile world and we didn't evolve in sterile conditions.

I know this but as long as I live in a environment where stores are ready to supply me with all my antibacterial crap i'll never stop

Actually it's more like the result of insecurities, one develops ritualistic behaviours like excessive handwashing as a comfort thing.

>> No.3908997

But the initial belief that sterilizing all surfaces = healthy behaviour stems from ignorance.

Then it becomes a compulsion.

no

I know that I'm not going to get sick from shaking hands with someone who just went to the bathroom and didn't wash theirs

It just disgusts me and I get comfort from using antibacterial gel or whatever method is available at the time

ever been in a public place? guess what ~80% of the "dust" that you're breathing in is? human skin & hair

and a public restroom? the smell is actual poop particles being sucked into your nose. and when you or they flush? a bunch of the poop gets sprayed out into the air.

Ignorance.

Not to mention recent studies have shown that people literally spew off microbes wherever they go. Our body heat acts like thermal drafts for the microbes to ride.

So next time you are in a room, bus, plane, whatever with lots of people, just think of the microbe chimneys over everyone.

>> No.3909017

>>3908997
I don't think it's really a perception of it being healthy behaviour, more like you know that "sterilizing a surface kills germs" and maybe the compulsion is a desire to have control by not allowing any filthy germs to touch you.

>> No.3909018

If I was to buy in bulk like restaurants do (i.e. everything shrink-wrapped and in cases it'd greatly simplify my life.

I just wash everything, from produce to boxes. Even paper bags like for sugar.

It's not perfect but it's far beyond average.

I also strip in the hallway and shower every time I go outside.

I live in fairly clean conditions. I think it started after I stopped swimming and moved out of where I was.

My ex boyfiend many times recounted how the cat (who he picked up at the animal shelter right after he was picked off the streets) spend two weeks cleaning himself after.

Today he contorts in dirt like any other cat.

On one hand I see it as really sick. Like, surgical blocks are in many ways dirtier than my apartment. On another hand I see it as more evolved or at least more conscious.

Most people live in squalor and filth reserved for wild beasts. I think that as a human I should be able to live in cleaner conditions.

My place is also very small. I think that it's more a way to isolate myself from "outside", so that there can be an "inside" rather than just something analogous to a bathroom stall.

you probably already got a Toxoplasmosis infection from the cat. this could be why you're acting that way. it's known to affect women's behavior more than men. seek medical attention.

This. My gf's mom has a Toxo scar on her eye (and changed litter boxes when she was pregnant).

Toxo is pretty common. Maybe that contributed to Sceak's schizophrenia?

>> No.3909058

excuse my ignorance, but doesn't washing the cardboard and paper cartons of things cause the food inside to go bad faster because the wet carton mildews? you haven't mentioned such a behavior before, are you ok dude? did you just make up some terrible phobia because you want some attention? I wish you would honestly consider that you are probably not a big of a mess/retard/loser/freak as YOU think yourself to be. Sure you have some problems but I don't see you as a "lost cause" I think you have the ability to be OK if you just work at it. Lard is really useful. Make some dough for sure, but maybe use it to preserve some stuff. You say you are a vegan, but I know that you do eat meat on occasion, you just think it makes you "crazy"- It would be a really cool project to try something like this:http://cookrookery.com/?p=640 or some such thing?
