Hi /ck/ I hate fish, but I need to eat it for the precious proteins, what do I do to mask that taste?

I normally put it with mayonnaise but I'm on a cut and can't have it. I've tried jalapenos but it didn't work that well, I just had a really spicy fishy taste.

Okay, OP, let me clue you in:

1. Canned tuna tastes awful. Pouch tuna tastes bad. Anyone with sense on /ck/ is going to tell you to stop being retarded, and not even buy that shit.
2. There are a lot of protein sources out there, many of which are incredibly lean. If you just need to horf down protein, there are powders and chicken breasts and so many other kinds of fish it's ridiculous.

This isn't a question for /ck/. This is a question for /fit/. Because you obviously can not cook, or you would be eating any of the thousands of other protein sources out there. Because you could prepare them.

Try cooking fried tuna and eggs.

Fry a diced onion on a pan with a little bit of butter, add the tuna after pouring away the oil (don't buy tuna in brine/water, it doesn't taste as good), fry it for a couple of minutes, then add 2-3 eggs. Add salt, pepper and a squirt of lime juice, then stir it until the eggs are scrambled.

Makes a great lunch when served with a salad.

Harsh, but true OP. This is more of an "I need basic nutrients and don't know where to get them" question rather than an "I cook, and need suggestions to improve my diet" question. Not to be rude, but I'm getting the feeling that either you do not cook, or don't do it often enough to have a broad enough view of the options available to you.

My suggestion: There are thousands upon thousands of better protein options out there. Canned tuna is a very affordable, but god awful choice. There are hundreds of different, and delicious types of fish that (even bought fresh) can be affordable if you shop smart. I won't play on your "I hate fish" comment, because if canned tuna is the basis of your experience, I'm going to be so bold as to say you probably don't know if you truly enjoy fish or not. Canned tuna is cheap, dry, and smelly - really a poor representation of all that a good tuna meal can be.

If you truly just do not like fish, there are supplements that can be added to all sorts of delicious things. You can add scoops of protein powder to almost any kind of drinkable concoction (I've enjoyed it in iced coffee before). If you want an extra boost, try adding a scoop to a tofu (great protein source) and fruit smoothie. Other meats like poultry and grass-fed beef, eggs, Greek yogurt, quinoa, almonds...the list goes on. If you want a protein rich diet, your options stretch FAR beyond a smelly ass can of tuna.

I'm asking about tuna for a reason, I know there are other protein sources, God.

Sometimes the other protein sources aren't avaliable and I have to eat Tuna as it's stocked up at my flat regularly, so when I eat it I'd like a way of making it taste less like shit.

>> No.3814420

I would get a fresh filet of tuna OP and sear it.
You may wince at the fact that it's still pink in the middle but it actually tastes very delicious, with light "fish" taste, and you barely have to add anything to it to enjoy it.

I love fish but I always hated canned tuna. I don't know why people like that, and that's probably one of the most "fishiest" sources ever. So try looking up recipes for mild fishes, particularly any kind of whitefish. I personally find the fish taste to be quite savory in filets.

But be warned OP you will never truly get rid of the fishy taste in fish without adding a shitton of mayo, spices, and salts. And if the only reason you're eating fish is for protein, then that kind of outweighs the benefits if you're adding fats and too much salt to it just to make it edible.

Well, canned Tuna is shit, so there isn't much that will make it taste less like shit. I enjoy a decent, thrown together tuna noodle casserole now and again, but it's one of the only ways I can consume the abomination. Your best option is to try mixing it with other things - put it in omelettes, salads, mix it with rice, etc. If you want to try and cut down on the fishy smell, invest in some lemons. It will brighten the flavor and mask the odor.

No one is trying to act like a cunt, but this is /ck/. If you suggest something god awful, we're going to suggest something better.

1. Drain tuna
2. Mash tuna with diced sweet pickles (or pickle relish)
3. Add gratered carrots and possibly celery
4. Sprinkle with black pepper

now you have delicious tuna salad. Enjoy it on a slice of white rye, with fresh romaine lettuce, sliced tomatos, and condiments of your choice (usually mayo, sometimes mustard).

Enjoy your relatively balanced, protein-rich meal.

Nobody's mad over tuna except the OP. He seems to be a little assmad that nobody will sugar coat that his choice of protein is horrible. Frankly if it's "stocked in his flat regularly", he needs to start buying his own food, instead of mooching off of others. ESPECIALLY if he's "on a cut". I'd bet you anything that these flatmates of his keep stocking cheap tuna because this faggot doesn't provide nearly as much meat/ protein as he keeps stuffing into his face. If someone else is buying tuna, he should let THEM eat it, and buy his own shit.

If you are not stealing the tuna, and you don't like it, why is it being bought? If you are supplying money for food, then you should have some say over what's in the cabinets. If you don't have any say over what get bought, and are not stealing, that would imply that you probably live with your parents. That's not inherently a bad thing, it depends on your situation, but living with people who buy food on your behalf is one of two situations:

A. You're not contributing and you don't get a lot of say over what groceries you have. Or
B. You are contributing, and you can tell them to stop buying so much tuna, because you don't like it, and don't want to eat it.

So which is it?

Frying them usually cuts alot of the fishyness, but you said you're dieting so that's out.

Tilapia is a rather mild fish and can be cooked without any oil in a good non-stick skillet, just move it around when it hits the pan to ensure it doesn't stick when you start. Season with some lemon zest and salt/pepper, or go for toasted sesame seeds, chipotle powder, and salt. Both are fantastic.
