I've walked around in suburban neighborhoods where they'll have a fruit tree in their front yard OR have a fruit tree in their backyard with branches growing out over their fence into public place. Do you think these types of people would get mad if I picked some of their fruit? I've never done it before, but I've been tempted.

The people I know who grow fruit are happy to share when they have extra or if someone asks. They get upset if someone just wanders onto the property and takes it.

Knock and tell them the fruit looks good and ask if you can have a piece. They might offer to give you more.

I have a pair of peach trees out front, which is weird for this area because it's a densely urban East Coast US city. I wish people would pick them since they produce too many fucking peaches for us to use, I hate getting the ladder to get the ones higher up and most of them wind up on the sidewalk and street for me to scoop up and throw away.
The neighbour behind me, a semi-famous opera singer, has a mulberry tree that hangs over our shared wall into my backgarden. I have to trim that fucker all the goddamn time so it doesn't block out the sun for my tiny-ass vegetable patch. The mulberries are pretty good, tho, and the wood is decent enough for smoking pork.
Anyway, just knock and ask it do it covertly. Or come to my place in a few months and pick all the peaches you want. There's also a pair of houses nearby with apple trees out front and a pear tree in a local park

OP, the wrong thing to do is assume a tree that belongs to someone else is free for you to remove fruit from, but you already knew this fact.
Have a relationship with the owner and talk to them first. They will say yes or no and you won't be the first one that asked. If and when they say "you can take a few" have a bag on you and pick the amount you'd consume in a week only. The rest will stay on the tree for next time.

What I wonder is why you don't plant your own damn trees or just buy them at the store like normal people. Are you that poor that you would steal to stay alive? You know it's a liability to the owner if you fall down on their property, or do you not own a home with insurance?

I have a neighbor across the street who is allergic to the 5 mango trees in their front yard that came with the house. These are alphonso, champagne and other utterly best tasting and rare varietals of mangos. She used to let me fill up bags for my own freezer, but nowadays, sick of picking up the pits from her grass with long armed gloves every weekend that destroys lawn mower blades and sets off her allergies, she places an ad in facebook next door app and people come in a truck and pick every piece of fruit at once til the trees are bare. Done, no more for me. Her right, though. It would probably destroy her property to remove all 5 huge trees.

I lived in Florida for about a year some time back with some roommates, and when our grapefruit tree was ripe, a Hispanic family knocked early one morning and asked if they could pick "a few fruits" for their kids. We agreed, not thinking too much about it, but when I left for work, I saw them still out there, filling up a large burlap sack. The tree was bare of fruit from halfway down, and the kids were up in the limbs, breaking branches and throwing fruits down to the mom. We had to chase them off the property waving garden tools at them like they were animals.

Not surprising if you're not from Europe. They don't transport easily at all. Even euros from out of the med might not know they exist, though some foreigners, notably the English, have taken a few trees to grow elsewhere. There are a few in the warm parts of southern England and, oddly, a bunch of them in Ireland but idk if any locals eat them.
It's kind of like cornels or whatever you call them in English. They grow all over the northeastern US, but even after moving here from Italy, I've never met a single American who's ever eaten any. They're like an elongated cherry that tastes of cranberry (and cherry, unsurprisingly) and we make them into jam in Italy because they're sour/bitter/astringent af raw.

I used to rent a house where the neighbors had a couple fruit trees with branches that extended into our yard, and I never saw any issue picking the fruit that was technically in our yard, and don't think there should be any issue. But I wouldn't just walk around a random neighborhood and do that. Like everyone else said, knock and ask. Most people are happy to have some of the fruit taken away as it's more than they're going to use and will just be more to clean up otherwise. Asking to actually be let in to their backyard to pick their fruit would be kind of weird for a stranger.

There's a reason for that. The fruit is juicy but relatively bland, like a soft but flavorless peach. It's also very gritty, with a lot of small but woody seeds.

>They're like an elongated cherry that tastes of cranberry (and cherry, unsurprisingly) and we make them into jam in Italy because they're sour/bitter/astringent af raw.
If you let them wilt on the tree for a bit, the astringency/sourness decreases to around sour cherry levels (maybe even a bit lower). They're actually nice to have, as long as you don't eat a lot (get a serious case of cotton mouth). They're also irregular fruiters, in some years you don't get any.

C. Pick the fruit and put it in a box in the front yard and give it away, but it all gets stolen by Yordanny and Yusnabio

STEM people tend to lean left because they're typically science fags (positivists), which means they look at reality and draw conclusions based on the facts in front of them - and reality aligns more with the left. Today's Republican party is explicitly anti-empiricism.

No they're fucking not. The only degrees conservatives ever study for are law because they want to dishonestly bend it to suit their agenda. Guess who else goes into law to push agendas?

My parents had a row of stonefruit trees instead of a fence at the front and we didn't mind if people grabbed one or two as they went past (especially as they were usually infested with fruit fly).
The Chinese people that would rock up with shopping bags and strip the trees (including the other fruit trees inside the property) were definitely crossing a line though.

I rent a garage from an old guy down the block and I have access to his back yard through the back door of the garage. Basically the garage and house are abutting the sidewalk and the backyard is behind both of them. Well, he has a mulberry tree back there, and let's just say... I eat as many as I want.

When I was a kid in Florida, the old faggot living next door had a big palm tree that grew coconuts. They'd just fall off and he'd leave them on the ground forever. It was in his front yard, between our driveway and this was a neighborhood without fences in the front.
The one time I took one to try and crack in my driveway, the old fag started yelling and called me a thief and then tried to curse my mom out for letting me take the coconuts that he literally left in rotting piles on the ground.
My mom told him to fuck off or call the police if it was such a big deal so he fucked off but he always bitched about it every time he saw us after that.
Hurricane Charley uprooted the mangrove tree next to his palm and put it through his roof. And all his coconuts washed away too. Fuck that guy, hope he died painfully.

Traditionally, scientists tended to go a bit more left and engineers tended to go a bit more right. But both were always soft left and soft right, as they have to deal with reality and it really helps to not have delusions when doing that.

There are tons of videos from South America and Central America of fruit thieves being caught and beaten by the fruit tree owner. In America if you caned a Guatemalan in your backyard for stealing from your fruit tree, you would go to prison for a hate crime.

>in their yard
No
>branches growing out over their fence
Yes. I mean don’t be a sperg and bring a bucket to fill but people with fruit trees end up with way more fruit than they can actually eat and are happy to give it away. Of course if they’re in their yard or something then ask but they will not miss a couple lemons or persimmons. I grew up in SoCal and it was normal to grab avocados. On the walk home from school one lady would leave out paper bags and specifically ask us to take them. Now I have a few fruit trees in my backyard and would be furious if I found some kid back there going for them but I also have the process most years of trying to figure out how to give away fruit before it spoils. Just don’t be greedy and behave like a good member of society.

Gardens are very different from trees btw, absolutely do not touch anyone’s garden regardless if you can reach the tomatoes from the sidewalk

>lazy fucks
Most people grow the trees because they like the fruit on them. But once they’re ripened you’ll have way more than you know what to do with unless you’re into canning or other preservation. And they only last so long. My MIL has a lemon and she’ll easily use a third of what the tree makes but that means lemon bars, lemonade, lemon cookies, lemon chicken, lemon fish, lemon everything for a week or two and there’s still a shitload of lemons left.

Also
>they should pick the fruits themselves and distribute them to everyone in the neighborhood
lol, lmao
