There are many kinds, some far worse than others. Some are OK, but if you just remember that instant coffee is different than "real" coffee and learn to expect a different coffee drinking experience you'll soon get over your hangups. If you can find an instant coffee that's OK. Folgers is unironically good.

Bump.
Don't drink filter coffee. I remember reading some filters are good others are bad from Hario. I've never seen these. My initial research points to it's not the bad ones (the ones made in Netherlands) just the new packaging.

Being a neophyte in the filter game it is my will to mimic what is desirable by those in the know. I never saw this packaging (green) but they're made in japan and from my limited research it's those made in the netherlands that are undesirable. Wanted confirmation from the local filter drinkers, but will have to do with them first before buying cafecs or konos (will keep that in mind though).

A bleached size 2 hario filter should perform the same no matter if you get it in a box or bag, included with a brewer or not. They don't. The tabbed papers from a jap imported hario switch might be the worst I've ever tried to use. Buying papers from the same company shouldn't be a minigame of tracking down the right pack from the right factory. Cafec used to make hario's filters and they were great, hario cut them out and launched factories around the world and inconsistencies sprung up between them. If you want the old "legendary" jap made hario tabless people talk about, buy the cafec whites. They come in a green(01) or yellow(02) pack.

Different anons. I do drink filter. Ive got cafec (whites, abacas, mediums, lights, origamis), kono, yiting pure f, and hario(tabbed white, tabbed brown) and april flat bottoms all sitting here. I've been using whites and aprils more than anything, but its mainly because I've been making single cups and decided I don't like wasting a bunch of paper when I don't need to. Glad I just went through the stash, found a pound of Loma La Gloria Red Bourbon black honey.

Anons I have a serious inquiry for Turkish coffee autists.

I wanna try brewing it in hot sand. Is a common stainless steel saucepan adequate to pour some pure sand into and then heat it up?

Why am I doing this: my cezve is a little uneven at the bottom and obviously the hobs on my electric oven are too large for it anyway, so the potential heat loss is triggering my autism. It also takes ages to brew a full cezve in case I'm making two cups.

I'm also gonna have to re-tin it in places.

Alright, I tried Taster's Choice straight black.
>3.8g instant
>269g water at 78°C
I tried to mimick the concentration you'd find in a 1:15 french press brew. It tasted hollow, under-extracted, and just plain bland. Very low bitterness, low acidity, lack of any discernible flavour, and a little oxidized. I can see the use for this in quick little milk drinks and desserts, but definitely don't recommend this for regular coffee drinking. This initial foam in pic related was a bit off-putting, but it dissipated eventually.

You should expect that these 2 taste completely different.
Most people complain because they drink robusta but have the expectation of having something similar to arabica.
Robusta does not taste stronger or anything, the taste is just much more bitter and because the stuff is usually dark roasted there is almost no fruity notes.

>Swisscoffee coffee beans or ground is the emblem of our capsule coffees, due to its harmony between robusta and arabica, offering a perfect balance. Coffee with a gourmet character, the aromas of cocoa and red fruits remind us of the local origins of coffee, a taste journey to Brazil, Colombia and Vietnam. The light touch of robusta provides an interesting balance to the taste of the coffee, thus mitigating the acidity.

Tastes really good. Almost tempted to see how it tastes in capsule jej. No acidity, some choco/nutty/caramel notes. The smol robusta limits the acidity while bringing complexity to the cup.
Great coffee that balances well with the afternoon Guji Bule Hora.

light roast is hard to use for french press.
also just ignore that retard.
generally this general doesnt drink dark roasts so not really much to recommend.
also country/state is important. but you can usually look in the pastebin which op forgot because they are a fag.
the pastebin is in the last thread.
go to any of the websites listed under your country/closest country and find a dark roast.
generally an espresso roast will mean dark/medium dark
i personally dont use french press but i drank some Costa Rica Las Lajas Alma Negra. natural process, medium dark.
and its great.
the tasting notes as usual are totally wrong but still a very good cup.

My costco had $5/lb medium roast whole bean again so I bought a bunch, I should really drink it faster because I can never finish a bag before it starts smelling sweet and rancid, even in an airtight jar, but I can't find anything that smells as good at this price range in single 12oz bags.
I still haven't finished the last bag and I still have probably 2 weeks of mildly staling coffee ahead cus I don't like wasting it, I would make more than 20oz in a day but I get panic attacks if I drink much more than that.

Where do people get hario style filters in the US that isn't online? Cus even walmart sells melitta style filters.
I've been using basket style folded over twice and they clog sometimes and I just ran out so I had to go back to using my melitta which just kinda makes everything taste the same regardless if you poured it slowly or not, still not going back to my French press, it has too many moving parts and I always hated disassembling it to wash it, simply rinsing it would leave a nasty rancid oil buildup after a week of daily use and you could taste it in the coffee, with filters I don't even have to wash anything, the filter gets thrown grounds and all in the garden.

What does /ctg/ order from Starbucks? I'm something of a breakfast sammich aficionado (perhaps even something of a connoisseur) and love their sammiches.

I never know what to order for my coffee though. Today I got a hot venti banilla latte with an extra shot of espresso in it. Not too terrible. The extra shot makes the coffee almost noticeable, but the only part of the coffee that's noticeable is that shitty burnt sewage taste that haunts Starbucks espresso. The vanilla helps kill that a bit, but then it's kinda just like, why am I drinking a coffee I'm trying not to taste?

The machiatos seem like they're just topsy-turvy lattes (wouldn't ordering an upside-down starbucks machiato just be a latte).

The cappuccinos any good? Is there any Starbucks drink that capable of being made well enough that it's good & worth tipping the batista, or should I just keep hitting 0% until they unfuck their beans & I can order a drink that both has a noticeable coffee taste while not tasting like shit?

I'm doxxing myself a bit here but recommending this coffee is worth it: house blend from caffe kilim in Portsmouth NH. It's the best beans in town but they don't roast them there. They contract the roasting to Port city coffee roasters down the street. What's ironic about this is the Kilim blend blows away anything Port City sells. And Port City's cafe sucks dick while Kilim's is iconic.

thats not me
but yes the answer is the correct one
my grinder doesnt have numbers on it
its just a dial
i set it to zero(full close) and then went 1 click coarser till i found the the right size, and then used tape to mark out where that is and then mark out a boundary so the moka range is x to y(coarsest before channeling and finest before channeling/choking)
and when i buy new coffee i start at the finest and make a brew at each grind step between x and y and take note of which ones taste the best, and then use those settings for that coffee, repeat for each and every new coffee.
so actually i do know what the fuck im talking about
so unless you are using the exact same grinder as me what setting i have is a worthless thing to say.
do you really think there is some universal grinder setting for moka?
>uhh buh what about measuring the particle size

You ever have a shot just fail for no reason you can easily discern? It doesn't happen regularly but every once in a while, like about five minutes ago - I'd pulled a good shot out of the same bag a couple hours ago, same dose, same grind, machine had had the same pre-heat time, same puck prep, same dose, no obvious signs of major channeling in the puck - or big dead spots for that matter - but it presumably channeled because it ran seven seconds faster

uhh I was recently researching and also asked with no answer. conical burrs produce bimodal grinds while flat burrs produce unimodal grinds which provides a more even extraction but less complex body and more clarity. better for lighter roasts I heard but up to personal preference. conical will produce more fines if you want that for your espresso. flat burrs need a motor so they are all electric beyond apex

>> No.19901139

Are you dense?
every grinder does it on a different step / adjustment.
You can't just say: "pick step 4, it's the best to make moka!"

A different grinder has this maybe on 5 or 3 or it's without steps and antirely fine adjusted.
I have personally seven grinders at home and each of them is grinding a different way. Most of them don't even have numbered steps, they are fine adjusted.
I have the entire range. Old seventies Braun electrical grinder, italian and and german hand grinders from like 60 years ago and some modern fine adjustable grinder i bought in a designer store five years ago.

Well 75% of the capsules i've tried have been almost undrinkable dogshit. Especially the "intense 12/13 roast" ones. You only ever want ristretto volume, sometimes espresso. The handful of ok-good ones are on the level of a well extracted "expensive" supermarket tier bean(depends where you are i guess) on an entry level super automatic machine. The only pleasure i've had using it has been having a quick decaf ristretto(one of the good capsules surprisingly) after dinner. Also holy shit is it loud as fuck.
