You know how your tap water tastes different than other tap waters and bottled waters? There's a different blend of minerals in it. Different minerals in your water affect the taste in different ways. You can tweak that to make your coffee even better and highlight or mute specific things. You can also tweak it to make it worse. Science bitch.

My quest to become the ultimate Ibrikci continues. Pic rel is the delectable cup I’ve made today by grinding medium roasted beans on the K4 grinder to a powder (ultra fine) consistency, and it was delicious. However it was an absolute nightmare to grind because of the force you have to put that made me feel like my palm and hands were about to explode just trying to hold on to the grinder.

So here’s the plan, I’ll try finding a relatively heavy mortar and pestle and use my hand grinder only to grind to espresso grind size or something before finishing it off by pounding it to Turkish coffee grind size. I’m pretty sure that’s how they used to do it in the past anyways.

The machines are cheap but the coffee is going to cost you an insane amount of money, also it’s trash and not even real espresso since the dose is 5.5 grams in each capsule.

Buy a superautomatic machine instead, with fresh beans bought from your favourite roaster, and drink real and quick espresso. The machine will initially cost you decent money but even during the first year the expense for the coffee beans will be inferior for the same consumption of nespresso capsules and will make you save a lot of money in the next years.

Lattanon here with an autistic experiment.

You all know sweet & sour caramelised onions with balsamic vinegar?

I tried making them with goffee instead, an acidic one such as the Ethiopia Sidamo gr. 2 from Hodeidah.

I used 40 grams of artisanal mountain honey that I melt in a pan with EVO oil and half a coffee cuppa of water, then I added the borettane onions (typical small onions from Emilia Romagna region) which I let become transparent and a little soft while coating in the honey sauce, then I added salt and pepper and covered with 40 grams of goffee.

Cooked on ultra low flame with lid on for 30 minutes adding the rest of the water past mid cooking time, then I removed the lid in the last minutes to let the sauce become a thicc syrup.

I tasted it and I like it, the sweet and sour profile is there but the goffee feels strong and it’s unexpected. I will taste them when they cool off and see if I can experiment the recipe with different goffees.

If this recipe works then we can kiss goodbye to tossing away underextracted cuppas.

Grim state on this general. If you’re doing it properly, the coffee you make with pour over should require a fair amount of attention and technique, compared to most other methods which are really just a matter of buying a gram scale and a timer. Good pourover coffee requires that plus ten other things.

Easy?...
EASY??
Sure it's easy to set up and clean, but I don't know what it is about a V60 that takes a while to find the right grind size for every new bean or even a new method. French press is much more forgiving. If you want easy and non-plastic, try the Bonavita dripper. It's essentially a clever dripper made of ceramic instead of plastic with a silicone stopper. You can get a V60 at some point too and just have it if you feel like honing your skills so that maybe you get lucky and brew the most perfect cup of coffee you'll ever have with a small chance you'll recreate it the exact same way. Maybe I'm still a noob and need to keep practicing but its been like 2 months lmao.

If by
>the v60 has a low skill floor
you mean
>you can technically make something drinkable with the v60 with zero experience and without following a recipe
sure, that’s correct. You’ll make some pretty crap coffee, so bad in fact, that I think the average person who just wants to lazily throw together a decent cup or coffee would notice how much worse it is than even cheap automatic methods like a Mr Coffee. This isn’t even considering the fact that pourover requires at a minimum
>the pourover tool, like a v60 or chemex
>filters
>a gooseneck kettle
>a gram scale
as well as 5 or so minutes of relatively manual work to make the coffee. Saying this is “lazy” just because you don’t know what you’re doing is just an abuse of the word. My first non-automatic method was the French press, and it’s way, WAY easier to do with your brain turned off the pourover. You literally just get some water boiling, put in your grounds, then put in the water, press, wait, and pour. No need to worry about how the water is poured, or whether it’s the exact right temperature, or whether your timing/weight is off, or anything else. It’s simply an easier method to pull off properly than pourover.

As someone who lived with mediocre pourover for quite a while before really putting some thought and research into it, my coffee was still far better than basically anything I'd get while visiting someone else. It is characterized by a harmonious character, which offers a pleasant and balanced tasting experience.

>Nicaraguan coffee is grown in mountainous regions, where climatic conditions and nutrient-rich soils contribute to its unique and complex taste. Raspberry aromas combine with notes of praline, honey and chocolate to create an original and delicious coffee. In summary, Nicaraguan coffee is an ideal choice for coffee lovers looking for a balanced tasting experience, with aromas of raspberry and gourmet notes of praline, honey and chocolate. It also has a harmonious character that makes it a pleasant coffee to drink.

Great low bitterness high acidity goff.
Balances well with my morning low acidity high bitterness goffee.
Heavily biased towards acidity, with little counterbalanced choconutty notes.
Pleased with this gustation session.

Hey guys I just got a Moka pot as suggested by this thread but I think I got a used one, which I’m fine with but there’s this weird shit in it? I’m not sure if it’s corrosion of the metal or some other buildup, is this normal? Is it safe to use?

Retarded takes tend to make people think you’re a talkative noob. You’re right that you don’t absolutely need one, but saying
>the average poster can be as deliberate with or without a gooseneck
I’m not gonna dignify this retardation with a direct reply. This is like when hobbyist coders on /g/ scold people for using IDEs because technically you can get the job done with VIM. Consider this though. Goosenecks aren’t expensive. You can get them at any supermarket. Other than a nice grinder, it’s the biggest recommendation for getting better at making your daily cup of coffee. No, you don’t absolutely need one, but I don’t know why you’d bother with pourover if you don’t want to be precise. This isn’t gatekeeping. It’s a fairly straightforward and simple insistence that pourover is more effort than it’s worth unless you’re going to be very deliberate with it. If you just wanna mindlessly throw something together every morning, get an aeropress.

Yes, but if you can go a little above budget the regular 58 with the heating element is worth it. It's more expensive to upgrade later. Sorry for your loss, Anon. If the weather is nice where you are I reccomend buying a nice hybrid bicycle and going for some rides. Something like a Trek FX 2. The endorphins from light exercise and spending time outdoors does wonders for the mind.

Can't decide between the Flair 2 Pro and 58+.

If money wasn't an issue (it is), would you say that the 58+ is a BIG improvement over the Pro 2?

I intend to keep it and use it as a home machine, I'm not interested in bringing it camping around and to my friends houses, but the 58+ is literally more than 2x the price of the Pro 2 and I'm not ok with this unless there's a huge difference that justifies the price increase.

>> No.19769027

I don't own an espresso machine, but as someone with a limited understanding of both products, I assume the major upside of the 58 is the preheat element. How often do you wanna make espresso? Every day? The 58 will save you a lot of stress. Just once in a while? Heating it up yourself with a kettle will take longer, but for the odd shot, you should be fine.
