It's ok to break your pasta. Even the white house's chef does it.

Again, no idea where this stereotype that this is some sin in Italian cooking comes from.
We.
Break.
Pasta.
All.

There are some varieties specifically made for breaking, ffs

it's much more satisfying to eat it whole. the length is the whole point of spaghetti. just use a stainless steel pan to cook them, they're 27cm long so all 28cm pans will work. eating pasta like aglio e olio, cacio e pepe or carbonara with spaghetti broken in half is almost as retarded as using spaghetti for ragu bolognese

Bolognese di Napoli, which actually predates the better known version by about 150 years iinm, is often served with spaghetti, being that spaghetti are from Naples to begin with.

Umm "scusi" me, sweaty, but did YOU go on an overpriced guided tour of Emilia-Romagna when you were 17? I think not. The tour guide told us about breaking pasta on the first day. I took that knowledge back with me. To this day I serve the SOUPIEST chicken piccata, just swimming in a thin sauce, but you better believe that pasta is WHOLE. And I make sure to show all of my guests that thing where you twirl the pasta into a spoon, every single meal.

As said twice (now three times), we break spaghetti, too. As for "long ziti," that's quite the shibboleth there. You've outed yourself as an American. Unlike you, we don't use a descriptor to refer to "long ziti" because that's the normal way they're available whereas cut ziti, as shown in >>19679271 is the derivative in need of one.

If you break spaghetti, then you shouldn't be cooking. Just use a different shape. Short spaghetti doesn't fit on a fork, or a spoon, it's hard to eat and doesn't serve any purpose. Unless you're using it as soup noodles, you could just as easily picked a non retarded pasta to use

wut? They're very important to Italian history. The Vespers rebellion used shibboleths to find and kill French invaders/occupiers, for example.
And we use shibboleths in our daily lives to pinpoint people from our particular locality when traveling to other parts of Italy (or the world). For example, my pronunciation of CI/CE sounds in the middle of Italian words (typically pronounced like an English CH) outs me to other Italians as being from Naples, especially since I don't talk with my hands and don't use our dialect in mixed company. We pronounce "dieci," for example as "dyeh-shii" rather than "dyeh-chii."
Similar to how calling 17 hamburgers a light snack outs someone as an American. That's a shibboleth.

the only reason why you'd break spaghetti is if you wanted to have some hospital tier minestrina and didn't have any proper pasta for it, stop being a faggot and buy a bigger pot. Ziti are a different kind of pasta all together.

Americans still don't understand that Italy (and indeed Germany) as unified nations are actually younger than their own country. Don't confuse them by explaining regional identities that mean more than 1-2 different types of consoomer goods because that's all American regional difference is.

>> No.19679441

yeah, it's preferable to cook them whole, but it's not a big deal of you choose to break them.
Not everybody always has the time to boil a large pot of water just to cook a few portions of pasta.

Broken spaghetti has a different texture that lends itself better to certain dishes than other, small shapes would, particularly dishes of southern Italy. It's not like we break it in half or anything (unless we specifically buy unbroken spaghetti; yes, the spaghetti sold in boxes in the US is already broken). We break it into pieces.
