Agreed. Spent 4 months in Korea, the food was all over the place. What I do like is all the pickled veggies, a lot of them taste amazing, korean chicken dishes, especially fried ones are good too. Some of their soups/noodle dishes are okay, but not as good as their neighbors in Japan.

Rest is just super mediocre. Even though I prefer hot/spicy food, I like Japanese cuisine a lot better which is hilariously mild comparatively.

How about trying again with an actual opinion? "Overrated" doesn't mean anything, because nobody knows where you're getting your ideas from, what your experience is, or the quality of the food you've had. In the same way that fast food is popular all over the world, but is not a real representation of American cuisine... you know how expensive it is to get a real quality steak in some countries? Apply that to any food that requires preparation or knowledge around it or ingredients that are sourced from a specific environment/landscape, and there you go.

since you put it that way, im chinese but i dont want to turn this in to a race war. however i will say this, the chinese palette is very developed and chinese people are known for their cuisine and the chinese food culture is leaps and bounds over korean food culture. in asian and in the west. HOWEVER, its not just about the biggest of the cuisine, its simply complexity and lengths chinese people go for food. chinese people, in general, are very food conscious. korean food when compared to chinese food is simply "too simple." Like japanese food is simple too, but theres some complexity about it.

the pig feet does look good, but the base flavor is? (l google it) Its hard to explain. Like you would think a spicy dish or noodle soup would taste good, but there something in the korean ingrients that gives it this korean flavor. it is a spicy flavor, but it lacks depth. its like drinking a liquid that is spicy but its not thick with underlying flavors. its not tasteless but it isnt strong. it can be full of a flavor, but its weak.

Fried chicken is not a $$$+ meal. You're just going to get overdone flair or tourist traps by going to "famous" places.
It sounds less like the food was overrated, and more than you don't know how to apply ratings.

its not shit taste. i have good taste. its not good though. flavor all depends on how it hits the palette. Cheap whisky and expensie whiskey are both good. but the expensive whisky hits the pallete differently. doesnt mean the cheap one isnt drinkable.

youre right, but when i visit korean chicken places that ALL koreans go to and is the main korean chicken places. that authetiic koreans run and own and authentic korenas go to and line up for, then its a very legit place. youre imagining me visiting a non korean place. the food isnt overrated if all koreans go there, and i have visiting very popular korean chicken place before korean chicken became a hit. this convo goes nowhere if all u say is i dont eat real korean food. ive looked up korean recepies and there a certain flavor profile that makes korean food lacking. Also, i do have to say im chinese so i have a better pallette when it comes to rating oriental foods.

it's a kind of 볶음밥 (fried rice) that you can order at the end of a meal, especially one with a nice spicy sauce like that (e.g. 낙지볶음) that's cooked on a hot plate in the middle of the table. You order rice and they ask you if you want it stir fried, they put it in and it goes crispy on the bottom and soaks up the sauce from the meal (which is the point in the photo), then they break it up and mix it all around. I haven't had it for years but seeing it makes me want to go back to Korea
