It's the best dark rum for the price I've found. I started drinking it long before it became a meme. It has good flavor, is relatively smooth, and mixes very well. If you want something better, you're either gonna have to spend a lot more or find something obscure I haven't tried yet

I've got a mix of stuff. The best rums I own are Kirk and Sweeney 12 & 23 year aged rums. The were pretty expensive but under 100 bucks, but were hard to find. Works for all uses. El Dorado also is good, though I just have a 12 and 15 year age.

I've got a pair of local distillery rums that are acceptable as well, plus a few from my travels. They are all better than standard bar cheap shit, but not the best either. I have a 10 year foursquare, it is a bit harsh, but I'd expect the older ones to be better.

Morgan's private stock is actually pretty good, I use it in cooking & soaking rum cakes, and at 20 bucks a bottle it doesn't break the bank and I don't feel bad about cooking with it.

I found out the hard way that Fiji uses whiskey caskets, so their rum is essentially a blend of whisky-rum flavors. Interesting for some, but I find it was NOT worth the triple digit price.

I do not agree with the rating for the venuzuela reserve rum, it is meh tier. Bumbu was a novelty, but the cork is cheap shit - it immediately broke on me opening it. Do not recommend either.

I've recently seen some Flor pop up in my local shop, but I didn't grab it. Now that I know people like it I'll try to remember to grab one next trip out there.

Kō Hana White Hawaiian Agricole Rum. You can select which heirloom varietal of sugarcane you want. It's quite good. You can get the aged stuff (which is also good) but of course it's more expensive.

It is arguably the best bang for the buck of all the rums in stores. Easy on the wallet, but high enough quality that you can drink it straight. All of the others require a doubling/tripling in price to get marginally more quality out of the rum, the cheaper options all require mixes to mellow the harshness.
