As an ex-fat person I can confirm this. Though it's hard when you're stressed and your cope is eating confort food. It's possible though.

You have to find your own tricks. Emphasis on plural.
Chew more, literally slap yourself on the wrist when you feel like eating. Look at a picture of Nikocado when you're hungry. Ration your food, weigh everything. instead of buying a pack of beer buy just one (1) beer and save it for a defined moment. Don't eat anything past 6pm.
Being healthy is a way of life that is for most of them built in childhood.
