Yes. I'm carribbean and the profound lack of flavour, herbs or just spice in British food is fucking profound. I literally saw a roommate of mine eat just a bowel of boiled potatoes with unsalted butter (unsalted is cheaper than salted here) and when I offered him some salt and pepper he declined because he doesn't like "spicy food".

Anytime there's some post about these boils I just imagine that roommate or someone like him complaining. The people in the video have the right idea but the one criticism i'd make is the lack of lemon and way too much garlic but apart from that it looks alright to me.

The salt and spice will be absorbed by the potatoes extremely well so I imagine those potatoes are going to taste fucking heavenly, I wish I could have some.

It'll enhance the taste of the spices, I assume it'll effect that crab boil liquid thing they put it in it more due to it being liquid as well although I can't be certain of that.

In general the adding of beer will make it taste more savoury, however more marginally, than not adding beer which is why they could've just cut out the garlic and just settled for some garlic powder at most and should've added plenty of lemon to balance out the savouriness and add some low sodium lemon pepper seasoning which'd have citric acid in it to add sharpness and balance out everything.
