Yes this is what people dunk on him for and yet ultimately it is his greatest strength. People think the Master Chef is who should be making instructional videos, but clueless retards are MOST of the population and particularly on youtube. It's actually the anti-Chef, home-cook ethos that I do appreciate, where the emphasis is bringing as many cooklets up to "can feed themselves" territory rather than taking average-home-cooks and taking them up to gourmets.

His recipes have gotten less-useful as he's run out of basic homespun recipes and has transitioned into more obscure stuff just to keep things engaging (if I ever wanted to cook nopales tacos from scratch, I'd know how to do it now...) but the early recipes like "So you have a big pot of water and some roughly-cut vegetables... Here's what you do to make that into Actual Soup" are valuable in a way that other food-tubers miss. There's many among that class of approachable-cooking-videos, but I liked his plenty. He's nerdy and earnest enough to find annoying, but even if I met him at a dinner party I'd have warmed to him by 3-4 times around.
