Beer is ok and fun, but wine is an art, it can be fun but it's just on another level.

I literally sell wine for a living. The odds of a natural wine producer paying more attention to their fruit over a high quality producer that simply limits copper sulfate spraying and does extensive vineyard management is slim to none. You can literally make a better version of a natural wine using concrete egg or amphora for fermentation with non-natural techniques because that's the entire point of why those techniques are used. Of course I've had great pet nat wines and low intervention wines, but the vast majority have no structure or complexity.

That's not what I said. I said that producers who REFUSE to use sulfur based sprays and non-natural winemaking techniques like conventional yeast and clarification are generally going to be worse than producers who chose to use those techniques because it results in consistent wine and controllable quality unlike natural wine which is like Russian Roulette more times then not. I was a natural wine believer myself too, believe me I was, but after you keep spending way too much on mediocre wine that costs the same as good to very good quality Bordeaux, Barolo, Rioja, or even Sonoma or Napa Cabernet then clearly natural wine producers are doing something funky. Obviously I'll spend money on quality producers who are "low intervention" aka not quite natural but close enough to where they actually do WINEMAKING and not "throw grapes in a clay pot and see what happens! is there a rule that specifies what you're allowed to use to be able to say a wine is "natural"? I didn't think there was but you're the expert here. I was under the impression there were producers in your "good quality" DOCs/PDOs/etc that trim their vines and have adequate spacing between rows and avoid certain compounds and various other meme things, they just don't put the phrase "natural wine" on the label. also some wine makers that are pushed very aggressively as "natural" avoid the term "natural", yet are thought of as "natural", yet they use the naughty things when they deem it necessary

so at the end of the day you're just as guilty of superstitious behavior as your "natural wine believer" strawman, these words don't refer to a specific defined thing but rather a relative location on a spectrum so of course you'll be able to cherry pick examples that satisfy your desire to either rage at the dumb hippies or rage at big chemical, whichever happens to be the agenda of the minute

At the end of the day all I'm saying is that quality control is key, especially for wineries that do enough volume for international or country-wide commercial sales. Natural wine, for the most part, has questionable quality control.

sure I guess but this just feels a little reactionary to me, everyone was all over natural wine's dick 8 years ago and now they found out that modern technology was probably invented for a reason but if they find a designated cool producer making as you call it "low effort" (actually probably higher effort) wine without too much adjuncts they'll still talk up how sprezzy and cool it is, they've just gotten less tolerant of bullshit and so the "natural wine" section of the store is now just the delinquents corner where they dump all the bottles that were causing complaints and put a warning sign up saying no refunds

Vivino and Cellartracker are the main two for review aggregation. Vivino has far more reviews per wine, but the reviews are largely by people who don't know wine very well. Cellartracker's reviews are more focused on how a wine's aging, but are generally higher quality than Vivino.

Neither of those are very good wine databases. I usually use wine-searcher for that, as it allows you to sort by region and style more easily. It's still not that good.

Overall I wouldn't trust any of these to buy wine. Best method is either to buy from a source where the staff are knowledgeable and can recommend something, or pay for a domestic professional reviewer who has a similar palate to you.
