if only they were easy to make
sure, few ingredients, but making a proper tortilla is not easy
my mom used to make me and my sister small but extra thick so we could slice it open to add butter
she had the magic touch and even those extra thick ones she made were soft

yes, it's easy to prepare the dough, and the warmth as you knead it is somewhat soothing. but I've never been able to roll out a perfect circle to my frustration. I mostly make lopsided rectangles and the occasional rough oval. and I can never roll them thin enough, as soon as they hit the pan they contract into a pita-like round.

mine usually end up dense and rubbery
I cannot make pie crust either
shape is not important to me, but I do have a tortilla press, when I make corn tortillas with prepared masa. I do have to put parchment paper top and bottom when I use it so it is a pain at times
pic rel
mine is aluminum and heavy already so didn’t think I needed a cast iron version. here in so commifornia, tortilla presses can easily be found at swap meets, as well a a bunch of of median cookware

my wife makes pupusas. -pic rel
use masa preparada (or dry masa, just add water type)
flatten corn tortilla in press
remove
added filling to center of tortilla
- I prefer cheese only or bean and cheese
- meat, beer, chicken, etc. often used
make second tortilla
place on top of filling
crimp masa edges, all around
pan fry in a little oil

serve with cabbage carrot oregano rice wine vinegar mix ( similar to cole slaw)

That's debatable. It certainly falls under SOME definitions of bread, but some define "bread" as being a baked dough of flour, water, and yeast or other leavening agent. As tortillas don't contain yeast or other leavening agent, it could, legitimately, be said to not be bread.
Tortillas are more like an soft, underbaked cracker or just a cracker, if we're talking about corn tortillas. This isn't a denigrate them; tortillas definitely have places where they shine and where bread would fall short (e.g. tacos, burritos, chips with salsa, etc.). It's just that they're not necessarily a bread.

do any of you hate the taste of naan? It has this weird sour taste which is pretty nasty. I don't know why pajeets can't make it without the nasty sour taste, but it's disappointing that every time it has that sour taste like spoiled milk. Why can't they make a more appealing flatbread?

There's a Mexican grocery that has a restaurant inside in my town, and they make tortillas on site. I was standing in line and noticed the guy running thr tortilla machine in the distance wasn't paying attention and didn't realize all the tortillas keaving the machine on the wire conveyor belt had started to form into this giant dough ball that was just rolling in place and getting bigger and bigger, so i yelled at him to get his attention and pointed at it, and he ran over and fixed it before it got wedged in the oven and started fucking things up. He gave me a free 5lb pack of hot fresh tortillas on my way out. It was pretty cool.

While I'm thinking of this.. i used to work at a restaurant and the mexican manager would send me to go get tortillas from the same place, and she'd cut them into triangles and make chips, she'd make this dish that was rice and potatoes and the crunchy chips with what i think was pork and green chiles.. goddamn it was good, anyone know what that's called?
