New Indian place opened up relatively recently, what should I get.

Goat Rarra and Fish Amritsari

>> No.18980995

That's a decent-looking menu selection-wise, price isn't amazing but I'm guessing that's due to local market pricing.

Any Indians here? What's the difference between Lamb and Goat?

In my white American eyes "lamb" is better than "goat" but on this menu "lamb" is the cheaper item.

Goat have horn, climb mountain, lick salt. Lamb walk in field eat grass, die young. Goat stronk, lamb weak, lamb bloody bastard.

sure but locally anyway, I can't even find goat meat because it's not something used in most western cooking, I can find lamb but it's fairly pricey.

I just don't see why goat is more expensive than lamb when lamb is generally considered the better of the two for meat quality and taste.

If it's not available in your area, that implies they're flying it in fresh from somewhere else, which is expensive. It also means they are buying and selling small amounts at a time which is also expensive. It also means they're the only place around that sells it, so they can charge more.

Don't get pani puri it's literally just some puffed wheat filled with water.

Goat is slightly gamier than Lamb, similar meats but Lamb is slightly better, the higher price is likely because goat isn't as widely farmed as sheep.
Not Indian BTW, I'm aussie and we eat lamb on the regular, I've been to an Indian joint and had some goat and it's alright, worth trying once but lamb is the superior meat.

Goat has more fat and connective tissue so it tastes really good in slow cooked curries. Always has a little chew to it though and almost always served bone-in. Lamb is much softer but much more mild in flavor. Basically beef chuck vs tenderloin in terms of taste

Fair enough, I guess I should just get lamb then, even if the goat tastes a bit better, dealing with bone and connective tissue can be more tedious. Besides, I get 90% of the flavor for $3 less.
