The other alternative is that this is a "pot luck" but you are already classified as being generally unreliable. The organizers know the heavy hitters will deliver, and this is merely an audition for you. If this is the case, and if you wish to be classified otherwise (not all do), then make the best dish you know how to make. Even if expensive. Somebody will notice and you will move up a level in the potluck game.

It's not really potluck but every three to four months I'd just buy some stuff for a big office breakfast, it was rotational and the secretarys would grab it all. I remember seeing my name on the list one day and was like WTF, I had to run out and get stuff. I certainly wasn't the only one.
