>The fishing history of Douarnenez goes back at least to Gallo-Roman times when, as archeological finds demonstrate, fish were salted along the cliffs of Plomarc'h.
>In the late 18th century and the years before the French Revolution, sardines became the driving force for the local economy; the fishing industry was based on their harvest and, later, processing.
>By the beginning of the 20th century, there were huge fishing and canning activities at the port. The strikes in the 1920s in favour of better working conditions for the factory women or Penn Sardin were the main reason why Douarnenez became one of the first communist municipalities in France.
>Today, the canning trade continues, although most of the fish are brought in from other ports. Douarnenez is still a centre of boat building and repair work.

idk much about all the different brands available. i just go to the check whats at the local supermarket. see them packed in water, olive oil, other oils like soybean, tomato or hot sauce. olive oil tastes great to me and preserves the quality of the meat well so i prefer that

easy to enjoy with soft bread or crackers, cheese, fresh or picked veg, spicey, with rice, pasta, whatever. as simple or involved as you like

prices may vary but usually $2-$4 per single can for me. probably a lot better price if bought in a case somewhere and probably some expensive special brands out there as well idk. king oscars are easy to find, nice tasting. some seem to love nuris but i havnt tried them.

Posting my first deenz, ignore the shit quality of my 8 year old phone camera. I ended up getting two different types by accident, one skinless and boneless and one with skin and bones, both in olive oil. the skinless/boneless ones were smaller filets, they seemed stuck together, not sure if I was supposed to pull them apart (I did). I heated them in a bit of olive oil with lemon zest and parsley then added spaghetti, a little cooking water and bread crumbs. I've made this same thing with anchovies before, but they melt into the oil where these guys didn't. I think I left them on the heat a bit too long so they started breaking up into smaller pieces. Otherwise, pretty good, 10/10 will deenz again.

Picrel is my favorite canned fish in my rotation right now. Patagonia Garlic Mackerel. Flakes up really nice, has a perfect texture, super fishy and dense flavor. Lots of omega 3s and omega 6, eating a can of these makes me feel so robust and strong, almost like a sort of high. The garlic is fucking excellent, it's perfectly cooked and impregnates the mackerel flesh perfectly.

I recently bought a tin of Goya "jumbo" squid in olive oil. It was on special for a buck. For some reason, that supermarket marked down a lot of their Goya products to clearance, so i stocked up on beans (47¢/lb!) and ham stock powder.
Anyway, the squid didn't taste very nice. Was edible, just not great. Still love me some deenz and macks, tho, KO especially.

Like... daily? Sardines are a better idea than tuna due to the far, far lower mercury content. Mackerel, too.

the tuna things i'm talking about are like little tuna salads, so just smeared on a toased bagel in the morning. they're already mixed with mayo, seasonings, etc

mercury content is probably something to consider - maybe i'll get hummus and something else to mix in so i'm not eating canned fish daily. i don't feel like buying a bunch of shit at the store and i'm likely going to have to eat a small lunch at work so i'd like something decently filling for breakfast
