18838175 No.18838175 [Reply] [Original]

I heard that it was banned because the taste was so good that people could easily overdrink it and get alcohol poisoning from that one source. Can you taste the alcohol in it? Because to me the taste of alcohol (including wine and spirits) is unpalatable to me. As for beer? That shit hurts my stomach to the ppint of shitting blood and making me sick. Btw I only ever drink to get drunk, never any other reason (because again I hate the taste of that rubbing alcohol flavor you get from tequila and vodka).

Tastes like anise or licorice

>> No.18838189

yes it usually has about 72% alcohol content so you taste the alcohol very much in it
you can of course larp and do the water/sugar diluting thing but it honestly doesn't even taste better then, absinth just looks and sounds better than it really is

tastes like lickerish but not the sickeningly sweet kind.

it's quite nice if you get a quality one, I always feel very heavy after a couple doses. happy, but my limbs just turn to lead but my mind is nice and clear. this is one of the fun things about drinking booze of all sorts, the flavour and how palatable it is really effects how you pace yourself and it reveals all different kinds of buzz you don't discover if you drink the same thing alla time

Most absinthe is around 70% ABV so you can absolutely taste the alcohol. It has a black licorice flavor, which I can't stand.

If you don't like the flavor of alcohol, you aren't going to find a hard liquor that you like the taste of. You can taste the alcohol in all of them. Go for mixed drinks, wine, or hard cider if you don't like beer.

I personally suspect it was all a meme, because people to this day will say things like "woahhh absinthe is so special bro it's another level it's not like anything else" and it literally is. But it's possible that the literal paint they mixed with absinthe caused other effects.

if you had the time and reading comprehension to understand 3 sentences you would have seen how I was discussing how different boozes hit differently purely because of the pace that you drink them (and I'll add of course the alcohol content but that should go without sain).

when I drink whiskey vs. wine vs. vodka vs. absinthe it hits differently because some you drink faster than others and THAT'S what I was saying, the change of pace purely because of how you palate the drink gives you a different buzz. it has nothing to do with the absinthe meme and shame on you for not even reading before you came after me.

absinthe was banned because it was competing with the wine industry of france. anyone trying to tell you it was banned for any other reason is wrong. they paid scientists to publish a lot of rumors about absinthe's properties, it was banned in the resulting shift of public opinion, and people still believe them to this day.

It’s a placebo caused by the scenarios people put themselves in when they drink. Tequila hangovers are ‘worse’ than scotch hangovers because most people only drink tequila in party settings and drink far too much, whilst scotch is usually only drank in quiet solitary intellectual settings.

It was never psychoactive, the problem was it was popular with more ‘off-beat’ people in an era where the Temperance movement was at its peak, so people were looking for reasons to ban alcohol. “Oh this drink is only drank by weird people with weird ideas, it must be because of the drink. Ban it”

Diluting it can do a lot as it opens up the flavour, lets you taste it instead of just numbing your tongue.
When done right it's almost minty and very refreshing.
The sugar is to make medicre brands easier to drink and serves as a "timer" to let it mix.

As for the fucking Hollywood burning sugar-cube thing, it's a trick used in shitty slav bars to impress tourists and disguise the dog-shit grain alcohol taste with burned sugar.

Absinthe is the liquor of the gods, my friend. It's fucking DELICIOUS, tastes a lot like sugary black licorice. However: ALWAYS water it down. If you drink it straight, you're gonna be in for a really bad time. For a beginner, I'd recommended 1 part Absinthe with 3 parts of Water, throw in some ice cubes and a crumbled up sugar cube. It ain't fancy, but it'll be ya nice and buzzed.

>> No.18841362

Absinthe is often flavored with anise, not licorice. And good quality absinthe tastes like absinthe, or wormwood. It is an extremely bitter herb with a very green/vegetal character hard to describe.
