What do you Americans think about this? Is this just the everyday pale ale you can get from any mom and pop's? I think it's pretty nice, not something most European breweries go for, and not too expensive either.

I feel like they really fell off in the last 10-15yrs
You can still get it at any Grocery/ Liquor store
But it's not as prolific as it once was as there is a boom in small American Breweries
Good brew, but there are so many choices now

There are so many small breweries now, that it's almost unavoidable to go in the hardtry territory if you want to stand out.

I'm a yuropoor and this was only good American beer available in yuropoor stores.
However I never had one in America, grocery stores have them but I never pick it up.
I think I will on my next run, just for the old times feels.
I used to pay 4-5 EUR for a bottle kek, but still got it once in a while as a novelty.

Pale ale =/= IPA
Pale ales are usually fairly hoppy, but the hops are added during the boiling process of brewing. IPA's generally have more hops than a regular pale ale added during the boil, as well as even more hops added after fermentation has slowed down which is called "dry-hopping."

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is kind of weird. You can still buy it everywhere, but I feel like it's nowhere near as popular as it used to be. It's still a solid American Pale Ale, but it always just feels like there's something new or better to try. 20 years ago it probably did more than any beer to introduce people to craft brewing and make them realize that beer can actually have flavor and shitty macro lagers are kind of disgusting.

I've had the hardest time finding my preferred beer and sticking to it. Every trip to the store there are 5,000 options. It seems breweries have exhausted every style of beer and we're left with bourbon barrel aged candy cane lactose space whore triple American IPA.

it's a solid beer and I still enjoy it from time to time. That being said, it is absolutely to blame for soiboi IPA culture. West Coast IPAs all started off trying to be """extreme""" versions of the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale since it was already known as a hoppier APA .

>> No.18803813

>>18803783
i don't think you can blame it on sierra nevada. they started the trend just by making a good beer, but the thousands of other breweries made it worse.

>> No.18804270

>they started the trend just by making a good beer
I had to look it up and was honestly kind of surprised that SNPA launched in 1980. West Coast IPAs were still pretty fucking niche until the late 90's, and the era of everyone trying to make the "most extreme" IBU shitfest happened a good decade after that. Looking back, it was a better trend than everything being being hazy shit these days.

It's been mentioned and corrected several times in this thread, but I cannot stress enough that Sierra Nevada pale ale (and many other US pale ales) are NOT IPAs.
I hate IPAs with a passion. Sierra Nevada pale ale is my go-to if I want to change it up and go with something more hoppy. However, 9 times out of 10 I'll go with
>wheat beers
>stouts
>amber ale
>porter
>golden lager
>fucking domestics
>rarely pale ale
>but never IPA
Take a swig of a domestic beer of your choice, pop a baby aspirin in your mouth, chew it, and observe the flavor. That's an IPA.
