A bowl of noodles at some shitty shack in china, it was surprisingly good. I dont think its a popular known dish, just the owner's original recipe with a bunch of tasty toppings. When I went to Greece about 20 years ago and had what would become Nutella in the years to come (theirs was a different brand name I don't remember). It was so good on the fresh baked bread and tasted like hazelnuts with a bit of chocolate. When I tried Nutella after it came over to the USA, I was disappointed with how sugary and shitty it was. Barely tasted like hazelnuts at all. I probably won't ever have the Greek version of it again because traveling is really fucking expensive and I've got other stuff I need to spend money on now

I miss Mexican food from Mexico/Cali.

I live in Northern Canada, but when I was a kid we hosted a Mexican college student for a year(he watched me and my brother for a few hours on weekdays in exchange for room and board) and he'd smuggle up his mother's home cooking every time he did a visit back to Tijuana.

Had a bunch of family in Cali as well so got a lot of Excellent Northern Mexican food over the years, but theres nothing within five hours thats even credible tex mex.

About ten years ago I went to a Thai restaurant in New Zealand and ordered some beef thing and it was delicious. On the menu it was called "beef star" or something so idk what it actually was. Little thin strips of beef with just the right amount of spice, and some veggies too (but I can't remember what). I could go to any Thai restaurant on the planet and I'd have no idea what to even ask for to get that meal again. It's gone forever.

They're called dodol, anon. They're not really pandan sweets, just so happened that you had pandan flavored dodol. There's durian flavor too, but the original is basically palm sugar candy. Pic related, green is pandan, yellow durian and dark brown is palm sugar.

You can look up how to make it yourself, shouldn't be too hard to find the ingredients.

I was staying in rural Ireland once and my host's neighbour had been out fishing that day and caught a load of herring. We ate incredibly fresh herring garnished with just some salt, pepper, olive oil and a bit of lemon. It was heavenly. Anytime I've looked for herring it's either pickled or smoked and even store bought herring doesn't even come close to how delicious those fish were. I don't even like fish that much normally

I'm the Italian Alps, more specifically Valle d'Aosta. I stayed at a farmhouse/hotel/winery. The owner had multiple Michelin stars for wine and cooked meals in her kitchen for her guests using only plants and animals grown on her farm (there was only 3-4 rooms, this place was on a mountaintop in the middle of nowhere overlooking another mountain with a waterfall surrounded by her own vineyard with miles of grapes. Literally fucking heaven.)

Everything that woman made was life-changing. But the dish that had me the most was hazelnuts, cooked inside a wrapping of rosemary-infused lard. It might sound strange but it was probably the most incredible thing I've ever tasted in my life.

She's since shut down her farm to guests, so I know I'll never experience it again...

I also know the best ramen in the world, it took me a while to find because I couldn't remember the name. It's called Syugetu Takamatsu or 周月, you can find it on google maps in Japan.
