18761427 No.18761427 [Reply] [Original]

I'm sicking of people hating on Spam. Spam is delicious and most of the people who whine and complain about it haven't even tried it.

>MYTH: Spam is full of artificial ingredients
FACT: The only ingredients in Spam are pork shoulder, ham, salt, water, sugar, potato starch, and sodium nitrate

>MYTH: Spam is cheap garbage
FACT: Spam is a premium food that costs more than raw meat

>MYTH: Spam is for white trash
FACT: Pacific Islanders and Asians love eating Spam and they're not white

>MYTH: Spam has no culinary uses
FACT: Japanese and Hawaiians use Spam in all kinds of recipes

How do you lads like to eat Spam? For me, it's frying up a few slices and eating them with eggs for breakfast.

Spam isn't terrible but the regular variety is like eating pork flavored salt, it's fucking horrible. The less sodium version tastes way better because I don't feel my blood pressure skyrocketing after eating half a serving, It's still kinda salty but at least it's tolerable.

I just like to slice it thinly and fry it crisp and either eat it as finger food to a plate of fried eggs and toast or as a sandwich, like SLT (like a BLT... only spam) or an eggs-and-spam sando.
Thick-cut spam isn't something I particularly enjoy, though I do also like spam fried rice

Those uses are just about the extent of my appreciation for the stuff. I've two or three tins in my pantry right now and I think I've a tin of Aldi's own brand spam-alike in there, too.
I don't like spam musubi and I've never had any of their other flavours beyond the original. Have you, thread? Waddidja think?

Spam fried rice is splendid. At the right ratio, the rice balances out the saltiness quite nicely. (There should definitely be some vegetables in there - onion, carrot, cabbage, and maybe some kimchi.)

Spam pairs well with cornbread, if you like stuff mixed into your cornbread.

I don't know anything about tiktok, but Spam was never cheap. Anyone who acts like it's some alternative to buying raw meat from the butcher and does a cost analysis of price per pound is retarded. Spam is more like a specialty item. Some might even say a delicacy. It's shelf stable and easy to prepare, but it's so salty that it's only an occasional treat and not meant to be eaten every day (and anyone who suggests "lower sodium" is missing the point). As far as I can tell it tastes exactly the same as it did in the 90's.

The problem with it being as salty as it is is that you need to eat it with rice to balance out the salt, and while delicious, it makes it a poor option to be your primary source of protein. It would be like eating foie gras for every meal, which is absurd, and then you coming along and saying you're not even going to try it. My lad, if you need redpilling on butty vans, they're not for you. They come from a place where your kind don't tread. Where the food hygene rating is assessed by a brown envelope and free butties to the lady from the council, where the bloke running it smells of cheap beer and always knows the odds on any sport, where the lady cooking has more kids than teeth, where the minorities are racist.
In B&Q carparks or by the side of the motorway, near the town hall or the retail park, near the industrial estate or the lumber merchants you'll find 'em.
They don't serve sandwiches, they don't serve panninis, they don't serve things witch require a full adult vocabulary or a healthy blood-alcohol content to pronounce, they serve butties, spam and eggs, saussies and hash browns, black pudding, onions, cheese, burger patties and mushrooms made of rubber.
The grease takes years off your life but it's worth every missed moment with your 8 kids, slathered in red or brown, no pepper only salt, all washed down with coffee bitter as piss or tea that's brewed with cheap teabags.
That's what butty vans are.

Infact my mate had a roast dinner out of one recently; roast beef done all day in a crockpot that had a crack in it, gravy was like used motor oil, roasties were done in the same pot as the beef, beef and gravy served on a barm with mustard and roasties in a burger box with fried onions and mushrooms off the grill, fuckin' mint.
