>Live in a 20k pop town in Quebec
>There are 10 restaurants in this town
>8 of them are fast food.
>The one grocery store has a restaurant, it serves fast food.

When will this shit end? I want to order but only the fast food ones deliver.

don't you have a sushi shop or thai zone around? even small towns have chinese massage parlours now, so i figure the thai/viet/chinese hole in the wall are coming.

seriously, even when I lived in Sherbrooke, i found the food options a little disapointing coming from cote-des-neiges in montreal. at least it was affordable.
i agree with you that there is a hole to be filled.
thinking of it, opening an haitian casse croute in these parts could be a nice idea.
they serve roast chicken which is a must in quebec and the flavours are pretty good on a january night. also porc in regions is pretty cheap and the flavours are not too different from quebec food.

Rural Quebec at least has good selection of groceries and beer.
The Prairies and many parts of rural Ontario are worse in all regards.

The lockdown certainly didn't help. I moved to Longueuil in 2018, my hometown of <10k people had maybe 6-8 restaurants at the time. Most of them closed during the pandemic, or burned down in a totally not suspicious manner.

I like my province enough, but there's a lot to find depressing: the lower standards of livings, the sprawling middle-class suburbs that only seem to become more homogenized and soulless as the years go by. An ever-present inferiority complex that perpetuates into the average quebecker's subconscious, which paradoxically manifest itself as smugness and condescension towards non "pure laines". The anglos and francos both believing that the other hates their guts so they have to hate them in return. It's all so tiring.
As for Vermont idk what's not to like, we have pretty similar geography, which I personally find very pretty imo.

The Chinese occupy parts of the GTA in Ontario and Vancouver. Great food where they concentrate, but they have minimal presence outside those regions.

Like it or not by virtue of being a big ethnically diverse city Montreal has better food than anywhere else in Quebec. The only thing the ROQ excels at is poutine, sugar shacks and maybe seafood in the Gaspésie

oh yeah I sure enjoy having nearby
>5 shitty pizza chains that somehow take 40m to deliver even though they're within walking distance
>3 chinese places that totally aren't fronts for money laundering
>a mediocre dinner frequented by the same dozen old white people for the past 3 decades
>various shady ethnic place you're not quite sure what is but you suspect they're involved in sex trafficking
>overpriced downtown restaurants with no parking that try to pretend they're a fancy place
>tim hortons
I just love walking there while avoid the streets with niggers and druggies, and also taking twice as long as expected because half the streets are permanently under repairs and the other half isn't designed for pedestrians.
