If you're trying to monetize them they do need to reach a certain standard. People pay for cookies for things like weddings, birthdays, and baby showers so you would need to make products that appeal to this crowd. Royal icing uses a very small amount of corn syrup to give a gloss and it doesn't particularly make it more unhealthy considering the end product mostly consists of sugar, butter, and flour. You can make great cookies that don't have icing of course but they aren't going to have as much of a visual wow factor.

Not to be too mean, I do think they look fine for home baking and just a recipe where you were having fun. I just don't think they would make money. Cookie businesses mostly make traction online for picture perfect icing art on a cookie canvas. You would need some other selling point maybe if you aren't going with that style.

Start trying icing with different consistencies (like thicker border and then flooding it with thinner icing). After some practicing when you feel like you have products that look like something you would pay for, make 100+ of them and see how you do. I personally get a little fatigued at that amount even if I'm having fun with designs. I'm hoping to have some nice skills by next year for my sister-in-law's wedding cookie table but I personally wouldn't have the patience to do it as a career.

basically she is doing what I was but with more supplies and better technique.
