Just had a nice* Nespresso instant coffee

*the Nespresso tastes like shit, but my oat milk is FUCKING delicious and make a shit-tier instant product taste divine (I have never been face first between a woman's butt cheeks btw)

Lastly, I have just purchased a french press and a coffee grinder, and now need to find some nice beans. Which country produces the best ones? Brazil? Guatemala? Ethiopia?

Different regions or even different farms within that region, bean variety, as well as how they process the beans will affect the taste profile. Beans are also sorted and sold by grade. Supermarket shit can be stale and lower grade (more defects, varied bean size). You should just try many different types, or roasters, but buy fresh and see what you like.
Ethiopia for example is a lot of heirloom variety, often sun dried.. can taste fruity/floral or be described as funky. Some people hate it, some love it.. after all that, the roaster can still fk up the roast and ruin good beans by making it nasty, or fail to develope it’s flavor.

Most coffee creamer is dairy-free, instead made of sugar or sugar substitute, oil, and thickeners. It has a longer shelf life than milk products, especially when in powder form. Just bought a bag of this because it was cheap and wanted to try it

I have a Breville Barista Express at home. Despite using the finest grind setting, my shots keeps coming out under extracted. This hasn’t happened with other coffee brands I’ve previously used.

Is it the beans themselves, or could I be doing something wrong? I use an OCD tool and the tamper the machine comes with and that usually gets the job done, so I’m wondering if it could be the beans themselves.

Picopresso and Nomad could be worth mentioning as entry level memes that work. I don't think anyone recommends or is interested in the rok press these days. I'd talk a bit about spring/direct levers and explain that modern manuals exist because servicing old levers(other than pavoni) is getting harder to source parts and more expensive. Robot being a clone of baby faema etc, flair being originally intended for travel use and the 58 being completely antithetical to the original kickstarter guy's vision etc.

Long shot times can taste great, short shot times can taste great. There isn't going to be any hard and fast times to follow for a lever, so just experiment. Taste is key. For consistency you're going to want to make sure its always preheated. Either let the chamber sit in hot water for a bit or steam it above your kettle. You'll also always want to completely fill the chamber up above the rim a little, you don't want air in the chamber. If you want to intentionally pull a shorter volume shot, just start with the piston ring lower.

>> No.18333517

>>18333505
Preheat, preheat, preheat. The flair brew cylinder has way more thermal mass compared to the robot so you'll absolutely suck the heat out of your water if you put it in a cold chamber. Your grind is going to be coarser compared to the robot because of the taller, thinner puck. Since the puck is much taller, its going to take longer for the water to fully hydrate the bed, so don't be afraid of long preinfusion.

Definitely not all that good at keeping the Robot preheated properly, though, so I'll have to figure out a good way to do so with the Flair. 40mm signature basket vs 57.5mm on the robot. Water is just going to take a little longer to flow out vs a thinner puck so you're going to choke it at the same grind. But like I said, taste is key. I'd start by pissing out shots at ~7bar in 25s with no preinfusion and gradually go finer and finer while playing with soaks/blooms.

Exactly. If you ever feel your pull "stop," like your puck is getting slammed shut, just back off the pressure a little and let that water soak. Filter optimized unimodal flats in a zero retention chamber don't produce enough trailing fines to hit 9bar traditional espresso but they're fucking perfect for modern long ratio espresso.

He's saying that brands that emphasize "100% arabica" on the packaging are usually doing it to fool buyers into thinking it's good just because it's arabica. And honestly I can't say he's wrong, actually good coffee brands tend to give you more useful information about where the beans are actually from, flavor notes, roast level, etc. because those are the pieces of information that actually matter. 100% arabica is the absolute baseline expectation for non-shit coffee, it's not something worth bragging about, it's like putting "0% semen" on a jug of milk, like cool I guess? Flair signature makes awesome espresso. Off the top of my head:

>Don't go over 16g of coffee
>Always preheat the chamber, I throw it into a coffee mug and fill with boiling water
>Always preinfuse, around 10-15s
>30-45s for the rest of the shot
>Grind is generally a bit coarser than a normal espresso machine
>Tamp carefully, it's sensitive

It's a finicky machine desu, but even with some channeling it's always pretty drinkable. John Weiss was a home barista bozo trying to declump coffee out of a superjolly he got for cheap back in 2005. People were doing all sorts of dumb shit back then to compensate for the lack of quality home espresso grinders. This post has spawned an entire fucking industry of tools. The dumb little realization that you can use a needle to even out bed density probably advanced espresso more than anything else in the past 30 years. What is now common advice was nothing more than the ramblings of some idiot with thousands of posts on a niche forum.

Why buy the patent a century and a half ago then never fucking use it? It's so goddamn retarded, like when Aldi bought Bottom Dollar but instead of running the stores separately (or turning them into huge Adlis), they just shut them all down. When Aldi did it, at least, they were scared of the competition BD could bring them and the size of BD stores (that of regular ol' supermarkets) was too big to fit into Aldi's business model of tiny stores only but there is literally no reason for Shitbucks to not use the Clover in every store.

After I had an amputation due to a rare condition I have, doctors prescribed me painkillers. One of the 'cets. Percocet, I think.
The med did nothing for me due to, believe or not, redheadedness from my mother's side and my dad being half-Arab (both groups are highly tolerant of opioids for some reason) so I was given fentanyl patches which didn't take away the pain of having a fucking chunk of body cut off but just made me loopy and made me not care about the pain.
The doctors refused to help me get off the stuff, saying not taking any pain med after such a drastic procedure as mine was very much against medical advice so I weaned myself off.
I was on two patches, which got changed out every few hours so I started with a patch and a half. That made me very sick with withdrawal so want with two patches one cycle and a patch and a half the next then down to patch and a half every cycle then alternating a patch and a half and just one and so on until I was finally off them.
It was a horrible experience but if I can get myself off of what's basically fucking heroin with no outside help, you can do the same with some pussy-ass coffee addiction. Good luck, fren.

Anyone else get depressed when they think about their coffee routine? I mean it's my primary hobby these days, I'll spend a night roasting, I'll spend a morning dialing in espresso. All the measurements and timers, all the thought over a fucking cup of coffee. From the outside looking in it's just a bit pathetic, a bit much. Coffee is this weird indulgent little dance I do day in, day out. When I think about myself doing all these meticulous little tasks I get sad :( it makes me wonder if there's some extreme loneliness and emptiness in my life and I'm ignoring it. When I talk to my girlfriend about coffee she's always happy to see me engaged in something, but at the same time always seems a bit confused that someone could have so much care for something so ordinary. I'm just rambling and getting it out here I guess. I'm lost in a lot of ways rn and it makes me second guess the things I enjoy. We're just a strange species man, we get off on weird shit

I do the same shit you do but better. I also spent years tending kombucha scobys and learning various dough recipes. Noone bats an eye if you spend a day on a brisket, or hours on french onion soup. They'd praise you if you were growing the onions or raising the beef, but that scale of production isn't available to most people. So instead we cut out the middle men of the entire consumer market of coffee. We're smoking premium cigars for budget cigarette prices. You've developed that roasting skill a bit and barring a traumatic brain injury, you're not going to lose it. So relax. Horde 52lbs of greens at all time so no matter what you'll have a years worth of coffee at 1lb per week. I spent more time walking my dog than I spend fucking with coffee and dogwalking ain't a hobby either. Find something you enjoy, accent it with a nice cuppa. I sat under my eaves in the rain and got in a nice roasting session while the neighbourhood was silent. It was great.
