Neapolitan pizzas don't have any added sugar other than maybe a pinch nor are their doughs infused in GMO corn syrup. American fast food & NYC style pizzas have very sweet dough and sauce that has loads of added sugar and preservatives while Italian pizza dough is just bread and they typically use very simple tomato sauce. Not Italian, but you have to understand their mentality. They’re very jealous and bitter people. Their country suffered major setbacks after getting their asses handed to them in WW2, their nation was in ruins after this and they were extremely poor and poverty fuelled, and so since then they’ve always been in the shadow of the other bigger and more influential western nations, like France, the UK and even their former allies the Germans. Not to mention the increasing influence of America and other nations of the world. Italy just became irrelevant. Even today they have slums in Italy still that are full of extreme poverty.

So after this, all they had left of influence was their food. It was the only thing they had left to be prideful of and so they can’t stand to see other nations take what they see as theirs and change it or make it better. They’re hanging into their last shred of dignity and relevance by playing ignorant, shouting and screaming if someone dares to cook “their” food. Of course the reality being it isn’t their food anymore and that Italian food in Italy has gone backwards, suffering from their years of poverty and that the evolution of their food has continued in much richer nations, America for instance has way better Italian food nowadays than Italy. You can also find better Italian food in France, which is the thing they hate the most. The fact that French food became the dominant force in gastronomy really gets to them. It’s sad, but that’s how it is.

Ireland is a piss poor example, Irish have no idea how to cook and won't have the same expectations as a restaurant in Italy. Even in France a country that is excellent with food has some terrible Italian food. Cuisines rarely export well, you probably haven't tried or lived in Italy to make a bold claim like that. It's even rarer to see regional cuisines abroad. Come back when you can find 20 regional toma cheeses in Ireland that you could by shopping in random places in Piemonte. It's not about doing it fast when it comes to pizza, it's not a fucking one night stand. The dough needs atleast 48 hours to be Napolitano style. A good pizza stands and falls with the dough. A shit dough makes a shit pizza even though the toppings are top notch. A good dough makes for a good pizza even when the toppings aren't that good. That gladly isn't often the case, and a good dough gets together with top tier toppings, simply because of the amount of work has gone into forming the perfect dough.

Many Italians just can't do that, even though the invented it. I mean it says a lot that i ate the best pizza I've ever tasted in Thailand from some kinky Italian dudes that like their spaghetti sucked every other day from Thais. Meanwhile on many vacations to Italy you often only get mediocre pizza at best, sadly.

Italian people are such a circus. Thousands of years of lively history, culture, music, the roman empire - and all they're known for today is crying like babies on the internet over split noodles and peasant pizza. I can't even think of anything more pathetic. The irony of course is that as much as they cry about dish purity, we have everything they have in Italy, most of the world does. The age of regional dishes stopped existing a century ago, you can travel to almost any country on earth and find authentic cuisine from any other part of the earth. You can live in the middle of nowhere flyover territory in the USA and still find an italian owned pizza shop that does it all from scratch.

B-BUT THE AMERICANS, THEY BOOPITY BOPPITIED THE BIPPITY BOOPITY - imagine being *talian lmao, or even worse, imagine behaving like that on the internet because you think it makes you cultured and you're not even *talian, what an absolute circus

This anon is right for the wrong reasons.
You put a bit sugar to make it taste a bit sweeter than normal bread. There are different amount of sugar for different kind of pizza.what americans call sicilian pizza has actually sugar in it as it is a different dough recipe than neapolitan pizza. In Sicily what you call sicilian pizza is called pizza al taglio and uses the same dough as local cheap food like dog rolls or ravazzate.

This is hilarious, and if it could happen it's because they are italian immigrants.
I am not denying the general sense of your discourse: Italy is still a feudal society and in feudal societies honour is the only thing that count for people to have self fulfillment and a sense of power. That is why modern italians are so anal about food and as an italian myself I totally support you lads making fun of this pathetic attitude. This is something typical of medieval societies as Huizinga stated decades ago. But the french make better italian food meme is totally made up lel

Italy shouldn't even be allowed to claim pizza. It's purely a product of Naples.

Modern pizza was probably invented in the mid 1700s in Naples, Spain.

>Why do Italians in Europe act like we don't have this in America.

it's because Europeans since the 90s and 2000s have actually become more retarded than Americans, just in different ways. They believe everything they see on TV, and they think the USA is still what it was in the 1980s and early 1990s. They literally cannot fathom that the USA has changed drastically from 1990 to today. The idea that America has undergone more changes from 1990 to today than from 1950 to 1990 simply does not compute with them, even though it is true in a variety of ways.

It's the same conversation when you talk to a European about beer. They'll always say, "HA, you Americans drink light beer that tastes so bad you have to keep it cold just to make it drinkable. In Europe we have full bodied beers from GERMANY and BELGIUM and they're so good and full of complex flavors that you would totally blow your little American mind....heh, you don't even know what real beer actually is, kid".

That's literally what they think. They think it's 1985 and we only drink Budweiser or Bud Light. If you try to explain to a European that America has had microbreweries since the late 1980s and that in the past 35-40 years literally thousands of breweries have sprung up doing all sorts of different beers from IPA to Lagers to Hefeweizens to Stouts their brains will short circuit. If you go further and explain we even have kinds of beer they don't have in Europe, like Sour Beers or Pumpkin flavored beers or Beers that are infused with honey from bees that only pollinate blueberry plants they will become absolutely irate and despondent, like Luke Skywalker when he found out Darth Vader was his father.

The truth is that average European cuisine is usually better than average American cuisine, at least as far as ingredients are concerned. But higher tier American cuisine, like your hipster farm-to-table restaurants, are usually much better than anything you'll find in Europe, with perhaps the exception of top-tier Michelin star restaurants in France and Spain. Europeans won't even allow themselves to think about how much American cuisine has improved over the last few decades because their formerly higher quality culinary culture was the one thing they could lord over us after we saved their asses in WWII

It's more like they are unscrupulous enough to run shitty tourist traps. Here's a hint, if you're in a restaurant and the clients aren't mostly Italians, you're probably walking into a tourist trap with awful food.
>>18199664
That doesn't really make any sense. Things like garlic don't seem expensive, it's the meat that lots of poor people missed, especially the generation that lived through WW2. Even then it depends where in Italy, the northern part eats a lot of meat. I genuinely think it's some sort of a meme with no basis in Italy. Otherwise in Italy people would using garlic everywhere. You realise that it is a very wealthy country, do you?
>>18200671
See my comment above for tourist traps. Somehow I've only had excellent pizza because my girlfriend is an Italians. The only pretty bad pizza that I've had was actually from a shop catering to Germans and the Swiss next to Orta lake. I genuinely can't take these comments seriously when it hasn't been my experience at all. The best pizzeria I know is just outside Arona in a horrible spot for a restaurant, but it is always packed to brim and has a 2 hour rule for bookings (which pisses a lot of people off). My point is, you need to know where to go, and in my experience most places around the typical vacation spots (not travelling; theme park for foreigners) are pretty bad.

Russia fought and won that war, Anon. And for half of the Europe there was a different outcome in that war too for the same reason.

I genuinely doubt that, such wide statements are never useful. Best restaurants in the world are in US? Based on who? You understand that in London they have great restaurants too, even if the average bong eats like shit and generally has a poor diet.

Okay well Russia and the USA, either way it meant that after WWII the average Euro had nothing they could claim to be superior beyond their gastronomy. Ironically the only country that could claim anything was Germany with their manufacturing prowess.

> Best restaurants in the world are in US? Based on who? You understand that in London they have great restaurants too, even if the average bong eats like shit and generally has a poor diet.

I'm not necessarily saying that the absolute greatest restaurants in the world are exclusively in the USA. I'm just saying that on average, the higher tier restaurants in the US are better than your typical high tier restaurants in Europe. If anything I'd say those good restaurants in London are more like the good restaurants in the USA than they are compared to anything on the mainland european continent.

Basically if you go to some high tier restaurant in the US ran by competent people, a place where you have to spend at least $20 on a meal, it'll be way better in terms of ingredients and preparation than anything in Europe for 20 euros.

This isn't like a hard and fast rule, just that American cuisine has improved drastically in the last 20 years. There's a reason why Applebee's are going of business and farm-to-table restaurants are proliferating. Americans have developed refined tastes, perhaps more refined than the average euro

Europe was manifacturing and still manufactures lots of shit, nevermind doing a lot of research. EU put together has more manpower than USA or anything else in the world. What on earth are you on about? Italy specifically manufactures a lot of shit. There's lots of research there too, specifically some of the best business and economics schools are in Italy.

I think you're just going by experience and it's a very generic marker. For me the best restaurants were in France. But even then the average meal and food quality matters more. Like you don't need to spend a fuckload to eat good quality food. Pasta from Eurospin, ultra budget store, in Italy, costs very little, but is on the same tier of quality as Barilla (they're made in the same factory supposedly, so mark up is all brand name). But to buy good pasta abroad you're already spending 3-4x the normal price. Average person knows lot more about food. In UK all you see in cheddar and some import cheeses. Meanwhile a small, shitty overpriced carrefour or pam in Italy has at least 30-40 cheese varieties. It makes a huge difference. In UK and Ireland I was constantly aching for good food, in Italy or France its just so easy to buy inexpensive salame and cheese with good wine less than 10 per bottle and enjoy food like a glutton. You cannot suffer in those countries. Plus the women, architecture, drink, weather, nature... It really is something else.

>Americans have developed refined tastes, perhaps more refined than the average euro
To add, I think this is laughable. In Piemonte alone you have like 100 cheese and wine varieties. People actually know which shit is good and isn't. Ordering food in Italy is like having an argument, which drove me nuts as a foreigner. Meanwhile the average burger I've ran into has eaten all kinds of shit and has only talked of good food in boomer memes, like "Mediterranean flavours", whatever the fuck that is. Nigga average Euro absolutely knows food better than American. But its not a fair comparison as Euro food changes more drastically than anything in US, compare Spanish to Polish. America is also a very young country, some things I think just get refines because people grow autistic over specific foods and refine them over centuries of autism and elitism.
