just clean it with bleach/flash then rinse it very well and leave it turned on for a few days then you can use it
i had to do this a few weeks ago and thats what my grandmother told me

>> No.18153359

dont use bleach. i once cleaned almost an entire fridge with bleach because thats what was recommended me as an intern and i had a cough for 4 months after that, even though i tried not inhaling the gas. i now also have a black t-shirt that has permanent stains on it from the gas.

i guess it somehow directly stained my shirt but avoid bleach its dangerous. the 4 month long cough should be enough of a warning. try a specialized mold removing agent.

That cough sounds like it sucked though. There are some non bleach based mold removers. Your still gonna wanna wear gloves and some kind of face mask when you clean it out incase theres mold spores.

bleach is not volatile and doesn't evaporate. there is no bleach vapor from sodium hypochlorite which could fuck up your shirt. your shirt is discolored because you spilled bleach on it, or touched it.

> i had a cough for 4 months after that, even though i tried not inhaling the gas.
the smell of bleach is from chlorine gas, which forms when the bleach reacts with things.
it is very unlikely that you would have been exposed to any significant amount of chlorine. the levels where chlorine actually cause harm to the body are about 500x higher than the level where you can detect chlorine. a dangerous level of chlorine has an unbearable odor.

Hot moist paper towels to loosen it up, if needed.
Put on some gloves, fill a bucket with warm water, and vinegar, and wipe out, then rinse out in another bucket, repeat until all the mold is gone. Use brushes or scrubbies for crevices.until it's all gone. If there are parts to take out, soak them in the sink until demolded.

If you feel you need to do more, a mild bleach cleanser can finish the final wipedown of the job if yourventilation is good, of course. If there is an ice maker, do several changes of water and dump theice for a while.

use a couple of baking soda boxes for a while in there, when in use.

the mold spores will have contaminated not just the food compartment but also the "backend" of the fridge, the fan, the vents, insulation, coils, etc. Then when you turn on the fridge the fan will spew out the spores into your kitchen and you will smell the moldy odor everywhere in your living space. This happened to me and the damn smell is still there every time I step into the room long after that fridge was tossed out. Send it to the scrap yard.

Don't clean mold with bleach. Clean it with mold killer, and make sure it doesn't contain bleach. Bleach makes surviving mold invisible so don't know you haven't killed it all. Only use bleach to remove the stains once you've gone over them at least twice with a mold killer.
