10ish years ago I asked what I should make my gf for the first meal I cooked her and /ck/ suggested shepherd's pie. We were together for 7 years after that. Then she broke up with me after she had a mental health crisis.
Moral of the story: don't follow /ck/'s advice whatever you do, all the cookie recipes make fire and all the shepherd's pie recipes explode your relationship 7 years later.

My theory is that cooking as a subject filters out some of the worst shitposters.
It's difficult (though not impossible) to horny post about food, but even if you do, /ck/ jannies are great about pruning blatant coombait threads, unlike most boards.
Plus underage posters & NEETs don't cook for themselves, so they never even think to browse this board unless they happen to catch a fast food thread, and even then, the threads function as a containment zone.
I'm sure there's something to be said for the fact that most older people & people in stable relationships (read: more mature/well-adjusted people) are generally going to have more of an interest in cooking, which also skews this board's demographics for the better.
