17913710 No.17913710 [Reply] [Original]

I'm hosting my first private dinner (at the guests house), for 7 people and this is the menu I currently have. I changed it alot, and probably will change it more. but what does /ck/ think? is it too much fish/seafood?

>> No.17913720

I think you should purchase a bunch of different kinds of hotdogs and have the guests taste test them to determine which is best. it's a fun activity that will add some whimsy to your dinner party. all 7 people are sure to attend

Should have a red meat entree

If doing 2 mains, fish or red meat is traditional. If doing 3 mains then fish, poultry, or red meat. With 4 mains one should be a vegetarian option.

this looks unnecessarily and incredibly pretentious, even if you're getting paid for it. double cod is also eh, why dont you pick something original? cod is so fucking boring. the chicken breast of fish. cannolicchi are delicious. so is red snapper (or dentex, cant find the english correct name). theres a crazy italia squisita video about a tiny plate of seafood spaghetti which is super interesting but possibly even more impractical than what you have going on.
as for dessert i personally wouldnt "pair" a tartellette with fish, the crumbly texture doesnt fit in at all in my opinion.
good on you for actually cooking instead of 3/4 of this board sitting at home eating the latest generic unsaturated fat vessel in the shape of a burger.

I would shit on my plate if I were served a basic ass lemon pasta and paid money for it.

the first menu looked really interesting, but felt the same way i’d imagine being the king of a medieval castle would. that is, as a royal, your intricate, heavy and odd assortment of little gourmet plates that have very slightly congealed in the cross-castle walk only make you feel a little ill, uncertain about what exactly you just ate, and tired.
a tasting might be great for menu1, but generally at parties people will come away feeling good if it was simple, filling, indulgent, and a relaxing companionable no-brainer. the food doesn’t seek to impress or confound, it’s just meant to feel like letting loose and taking a culinary breather from the over-complex gray of your worklife. fried foods, grilled foods, seasonal, tasty feel good things that make your guests feel like laying back and as if you’re not asking for acknowledgement but giving them something casually enough that they’d be so comfortable eating and chatting that it takes yourself out of the equation. great catering is probably putting yourself in your guests’ shoes, and thinking of what food would make this party the happiest experience to you, not coming up with a menu that sounds good in a vacuum.
i’m just a lurker though. sorry, tldr.

Why in the absolute fuck are you technologically inept retards using Excel for these menus? There are multiple fucking cell gaps for no reason, text spilling into the next cell over, you didn't even break data into multiple cells! Colors are meaningless here. I hope you cook better than you format. Do you print out the whole spreadsheet for reference, too? You know dot matrix doesn't do color.

Aside from that your menu sounds delicious, can I get an invite to the party? I'll show you how to use a computer after.
