Season versus King Oscar: which is superior?

>> No.17821803

>>17821721
theyre seperate fish, king oscar are brislings (small fish) and season are larger fish (pilchards)

i prefer season whole sardines over king oscar in olive oil, i think king oscar has a distinct bitter smokey after taste and im not too fond of that, and the season are fishy and meaty and not as intensely smokey and the olive oil the season are packed in goes really well with the fish. i would choose season over king oscar. ive had season sprats once and they were good but really super rich.

that being said, i like the king oscar sardines with the cracked pepper and the tomato sauce, im not too big on the Mediterranean style.

between king oscar and season in olive oil, id choose season. king oscar in oil vs in sauce? in sauce.

I love the Aldi spaetzle. All of their German imported stuff has been really good, and cheap too. Every now and again they have bags of peanut puffs which I really like. If you can imagine Cheetos, but with peanuts instead of cheese. Very interesting snack. I'm gonna keep an eye out for their canned fish next time.

yeah it has a weird chemical citrus lemon aftertaste to it, its like if you ate low quality albacore while inhaling a lemon scented cleaning product. genova yellowfin is miles ahead and you can get a 4 pack for like 6-7 dollars, ~10 cents cheaper per can for fish thats miles better is a good deal.

however, from what ive read on amazon is that starkists quality can be hit or miss, so maybe the can i tried was a shitty can, but even then that should put you off starkist.

On their website they say that they're based in California USA yet some of it is in Spanish

Here in Australia we have a brand Sirena that makes canned and jarred tuna, it's pretty much the best tuna you can get from local grocery stores, I never thought to read the country where they're packed because I just took it for granted that its good quality and it's Australian. So it turns out they have their canneries in Asia (including Indonesia).
So anti-Asian canned fish bros, what's the deal? I've tried a few different brands of tuna and Sirena is by far the best.
In fact I just went to my pantry to inspect my canned fish and John West tuna "made in Thailand". Ocean Rise (Aldi brand, the more expensive of the two canned tuna that Aldi stocks) "packed in Thailand".

I think it's safe to assume that all canned tuna in Australian chain grocery stores comes from Asia. And you're telling me not to eat it?

worst shit I've ever eaten. huge inedible scales. disgusting flavour, half were pregnant but the gritty kind. gave a can to my cat and he didn't even want it. literally just threw 3 cans out because that's where they belong - the fucking garbage.

I mean what do I expect, they were the equivalent of like 90 US cents each, but still.

just had some chicken of the sea sardines in olive oil and in Louisiana hot sauce by themselves (no crackers or anything)

id maybe add salt and pepper and perhaps some lemon juice and dill and parsley to the sardines in olive oil, they were fine, a good sardine to introduce somebody to the world of canned fish.

the hot sauce ones were fine, theyd knock your socks off. very vinegary hot sauce and mushy bland fish, good for crackers, good for somebody who doesnt like the smokey fishiness of the olive oil sardines.
