I'm Korean, what kind of stuff do you usually like? Korean bbq is a pretty easily accessible gateway into lots of korean foods. I pretty much like all asian foods, chinese vietnamese japanese korean thai, they're all great

KBBQ tonight was where I tried it, actually. Kimchi and radish kimchi were both real nice. We also got beef bulgogi, some kind of brisket, and pork belly. All delicious. Not a fan of your kpop idols, but your food is alright by me.

Yeah those are all normie staple korean foods. I'd also highly recommend the usual restaurant fares, 물냉면, 순두부, 짬뽕, 짜장면. Googling each of those things should give pictures so you can assess if it might look palatable. I assume you've already tried sushi, but there's more japanese foods i really like too, お好み焼き and ramens. Pho is also easy to find and vietnamese. Pad kee mao and coconut curries from thai restaurants are also ace.

Basically everything, asian food in general is just superior simple as. Better flavors, more variety. Koreans make better fried chicken than anyone in the USA.

I am an anglo and I hate whiteoid """cuisine""", my entire family thinks MEAT AND POTATERS with barely any seasoning is the pinnacle of food and it makes me rage. Literally all they ever want to eat is cut of meat with a dollop of A1, roast potato and broccoli.

If you want to call me racist for disagreeing with you then you must have been shillary supporters since that's the best that they can do.

Korean guy from earlier in the thread here

I don't recommend eating kimchi just as is, it's fine as is if you're acclimated to the taste but it's primarily intended as a side dish with steamed white rice and other stuff. It tends to go pretty well in things like tofu stews too.

A typical Korean meal will have a variety of these side dishes along with rice to round out the meal so you're not eating just spicy cabbage.

Jampong (noodles in a spicy stock with seafood, pork and other goodies) is very good but I can't find any restaurants that make it as well as a restaurant I used to go to when I was in college. The restaurant proprietors retired so I can't even get the recipe. :(

I've had the same experience. Both times I've had kimchi at a korean restaurant, it had almost a chemical aftertaste to it. Not sure if I just got shitty kimchi both times or i just don't like it. I find it odd, because I love cabbage and sauerkraut, and have no issues with spicy and garlicky foods, but for some reason I just haven't liked kimchi. Do you guys make it yourself or is there a specific brand that I can buy?

You probably got low-quality kim chi. You should try buying from the Korean stores where they themselves make it fresh. It also helps if you buy the kim chi to leave it in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks to let it ferment a little more.
