I actually used to live in the part of China that's known for cooking dog and informally polled some of the people I know to see if they'd eaten it before and only about 20% had. They are much more comfortable with offal than Americans though.

Chinese-Thai here so I’ve experienced the weirdest of both worlds. We haven’t even gotten to insects yet anons! In both types of cuisine they’re eaten frequently, but they’re seen as more of a delicacy. Of course we’d all prefer to eat pork, but if wasps are bothering the neighbors, why not eat their larvae too? Same with snakes—make obstacles into opportunities. They have unique tastes, but they definitely aren’t filling, and all of these unique sources of protein are very lean, so no fat either.

Personally I like eating grubs since they don’t have big eyes (like grasshoppers, gross—can’t believe some Americans eat them) and taste exactly like shrimp. In fact, I like them better than shrimp, because live shrimp have tickly legs that make them sort of uncomfortable to handle. Ant eggs are good too, but not actual ants.
